Interesting. I wouldn't pay $176.86 for that either though.

Isn't this a case of the pot calling the kettle black? I find Loblaws to be one of the pricier grocery stores (although Sobey's will always and forever be #1 in that respect).

Sobeys in my area has been dissing SDM on their shelf tags that way for awhile. Maybe because the Sobeys I shop in is close to an SDM?

I too find them pretty expensive and not a huge fan of their store layouts. I guess it's what your buying - there are a few things on that list where they are more expensive.

Wow, SDM must really be stealing alot of business to get these ads posted.....The Optimum Points system is the best by far and until other businesses can at least match it then they will continue to lose out so their only option is to attack them like this.

That's funny! SDM must really be considered a threat! There was a business magazine article out more than a year ago titled "Guess Who's Eating Loblaws?", and it was about SDM's strengths, promotions, and diversification in merchandise.

This ad is especially interesting because Loblaws could choose the items compared. People who are truly looking for the deals shop on promotion days and shop for the hugely discounted items on sale. I don't think many of us pay SDM's regular prices anyway.

I'd love to see a Smartcanucks version of this, listing prices (with coupons) people have paid for these items in the past. I wonder what that basket would cost?

It's their business model, metro and sobey's follow it too, it's more serviced based as a opposed to the "cheaper" priced stores. I sat in an extremely boring business meeting once, they explained this stuff. Not enough coffee there to keep me awake
Did you see the pool? They flipped the B!tch!

Or, I guess you could say you could get everything in that basket, a Nintendo DS, a camera, and a Wii for free plus taxes with SDM points! (And to collect the points, you don't have to apply for a special credit card/bank account like you do at Loblaws stores!)

I agree on the pts program, but I love my PC bank account..monthly fees whut? I always wondered why they didn't just have a non-bank/cc related pts card, but it's probably cause the pts system was brought in to entice customers to get their banking products? I think? I don't know...

hear here! and with that, we just sort of dissed loblaws in a way... dissed the good diss though! I love loblaws, especially as a conscious couponing consumer.

he he he ..who the hell pays $ 5.00 for a tooth paste ( approximate price @ both places shown in the ad )

I've never paid more than $ 1.00 ever for a TP ...& in most cases I've got the TP for close to FREE with coupons

I assume they're using a higher end product or something with an inflated price, like Sensodyne or something. Personally I got all mine for less than a 1$ at SDM last year when Crest first introduced their "prohealth line" and SDM had wicked sales on them plus the coupons that were put out!
