Because Baking powder has gluten in it and so does icing sugar!
In a large bowl, sift togethter
1/4 c baking soda
1/4 c cream of tartar
1/4 c potatoe starch flour
You can use it just like baking powder in any reciepe
To make your own icing sugar put sugar in the blender until powderLast edited by Abby5; Thu, Aug 5th, 2010 at 11:20 AM.

Here is the waffle recipe:
In large bowl mix together:
1 1/4 c white rice flour
1/4 c potato starch flour
1tbs baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
then stir in until well blended, these ingredients:
2 c dairy free milk
2 egg yolks
1/3 c vegetable oil
Now in another bowl beat until stiff
2 egg whites
Slowly fold egg whites into batter, Scoop with a 3/4 cup measurer and pour it onto hot griddle-Bake 3-5 mintutes or until steam stops
Sometimes when I am lazy I throw it all into a bowl-but they are not so fluffy and light
Ps if you can have dairy -you can use reg milk-same amountNew mom October 2014!

everyone always wants this recipe---
Chocolate Chip Brownies
( I make them in mini muffin tins (usually line them) for 2 bite brownies!)
sift together
1/4c white rice flour
1/4c tapioca flour
1/4c cocoa powder or carob
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
add;
1/2c semi sweet chips (dairy free)
in another large bowl cream together
1/2 c softened butter
3/4 c raw sugar
then add:
2ggs
2tsp vanilla
Make sure it is well blended
then add flour mixture until moistened
Pour into a greased 8 inch square pan
Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes you can frost them when cool and sprinkle walnuts

Do you let the waffles cool before you freeze them? I will have to try those!
Thanks

Thank you for those recipes, Abby!
My DH bought a GF Flour mixture...do you think that would work in such
recipes? Other wise it's like we have to have a pantry full of starch this,
flour that, guar-gum or equivalents....Some recipes I've looked at had
a half dozen different dry ingredients (besides the usual ones like seasonings).
I love the waffle recipe and will surely try it...after I head over to the Bulk Barn!

I carry around a safe GF ingredients list with me when I shop. Makes it so much easier when I scan ingredients and am stumped. I printed it off this website...its great and informative website as well.

Hah! Yes, great list...I've seen that one before in my travels...
Printing them off is a good idea...
I could put them on WP, minimize them to teensy-size, print them on blank business cards, and put them in a small wallet-type credit card holder to keep them handy!!
...or just print it out teenzy on regular paper and cut them into credit card sizes and stuff them into a credit card wallet!Last edited by Lynn49; Thu, Aug 5th, 2010 at 01:45 PM.

Some of the campbells chunky soups are gluten free, two that i know of are the turkey (hubby's fave) and the split pea with ham, they list on the back of the label (not in tiny print either) "gluten free" and ofcourse a number of the chapmans ice cream products are gluten free (and all peanut free!)
