Texting etiquette

I'm still in the dark ages I guess. I've never texted in my life and I don't hang around with people who do either - at least not in front of me.

lol. Wish I'd seen this thread before. I just posted in the "things that get on your last nerve" thread and my number one complaint was "people who text during dinner."

Unless it's an emergency, really, there is no need to answer your phone or send text conversations when you're in someone else's company, particularly at a meal or social function.

My job requires that I am "on call" so yes, there have been times when I've had to excuse myself to take a call or deal with a crisis but I would not dream of sitting there, yabbering on the phone or punching keys in my BB at the supper table. I would apologize, quickly explain, and leave the room.

When other people have done that to me--sat there texting while we were talking-- it made me feel like I'm second rate company and it made me very, very angry. Its terribly rude in my opinion.

But perhaps we've been conditioned like Pavlov's dogs. Ring a bell and we'll salivate...or in this case, ring a bell and we'll drop whoever and whatever we're doing and type.
