I have been really ticked by the fact that butthead so-called telemarketers from other countries have been using canada411 to look up random ppl and harrass them. arrrgh!!
So...
realizing that my phone number available online to these morons is the problem, I emailed crtc and canada411. crtc doesn't have anything to do with it, but this was the reply from canada411! yipee!
fyi, i'm on the do not call list, which has taken care of reputable(?) telemarketing companies but it didn't eliminate the calls from buttheads that were looking my number up online.

I haven't had any issues since the Do Not Call List, if they call, I tell them I am on the DNC list and if they push the issue I give them my lawyers phone number and ask them to take up the matter with him. Strangely they have never called him lol

Hmm, I just might look into this.. recently I had an issue with an 'outsourced' telemarketer named 'Daniel' (yeah right - he couldn't even pronounce it properly) who got very rude and dirty with me when he wouldn't take no for an answer.. he called me back two times after i hung up on him the first time..... hmmm... although I did tell him to eff off first, but still....

How can you be sure they are using 411 to randomly get numbers? While possible, there are other and better ways to get numbers. I have been on 411 since as long as I can remember. Ever since the dnc list started I can not remember the last time I received a telemarketing call.
Also, while annoying, it would not call them morons or butt heads. They are only trying to make a living.

Situation 1 - If your local telephone provider is a Participating Provider*, there are two options available to you:
To have your listing removed from the next print directory, Directory Assistance and from the Canada411.caTM Web site, please contact your local telephone provider to change your current number to an unlisted one. Monthly fees may be applicable.
The modification should appear on the Canada411.caTM site within one to two months, according to the date when the change was made during the month. To reduce this delay, you can also ask your local telephone provider to send a request for removal by email to Canada411.caTM.
To protect you from unauthorized changes to your listing, only requests coming from recognized telephone service providers are processed.
The listing will then be removed from the Canada411.caTM site within two working days.
To have your listing removed from the Canada411.caTM Web site only (you preserve your listing in the print directory and Directory Assistance), please contact your local telephone provider so that they send a request for removal by email to Canada411.caTM.
The listing will then be removed from the Canada411.caTM site within two working days.
*To find out if your local telephone provider is a participating company, please contact them directly.
Situation 2 - If your local telephone provider is NOT a Participating Provider*, there are two options available to you:
To have your listing removed from the Canada411.caTM Web site, please send the most recent invoice from your local telephone provider by fax to 1-877-433-6086.
In order for your request to be authenticated, it has to contain your name, address and phone number, as well as the logo of your service supplier. This is to protect you from unauthorized removal of your listing. The listing will then be removed from the Canada411.caTM site within two working days.
Only removal requests coming from non-participating Providers' clients will be processed.
To also have your listing removed from the next print directory and from Directory Assistance, please contact your local telephone provider to change your current number to an unlisted one. Monthly fees may be applicable.
*To find out if your local telephone provider is a participating company, please contact them directly.

I dont like the idea of send or faxing someone my phone bill. You didn't ask to be put on the canada411 list or what ever so why should one go through all that to get it taken off. Seems little fishy to me. I don't have credit cards or debt or anything and i still have weird long distance number call my house.
