So, we picked up a Decosonic vacuum bag sealer #828 at a yard sale for a buck.
It has no instructions and not enough on the bag roll to really do anything with it.
Anyone have expercience with this particular thing and is it worth even trying to find bags for it?This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Hmmm. I tried doing a google search to find the manual for it. I'm usually pretty good at finding these things online. But I found nothing but other people asking the same question as you.
Did you try looking on e-bay for the manual or the bags???"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." Oscar Widle

I purchased one and have figured out how to operate it. It works great and for 4 bucks at a garage sale I figure I'm ahead of the game. What kinds of bag can I use with it? Were can I purchase bags? They come in a roll.

I just looked at mine. I have a Decosonic(not sure what you mean by 828,mine has no number on it) and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!! I rarely use the actual baggies inside. It seals almost anything! Yes I do still use baggies and what not but when it comes to anything that is in a plastic bag(veggies, chips, snacks, ect,) I just reseal the bag/package and its as good as new the next time i open the bag!

For anyone who might want one...I just noticed an ad for a Food Saver one at Liquidation World. 29.99...seems like a pretty good deal!
Basically I use freezer bags...not sure I actually need a food saver....

I wasn't sure I actually needed a food sealer either, Lynn49, but hubby saw the dollar sticker and the original price tag on the box and thought it would be a good idea. I can see it being a good idea going out to the dumpster

Vacuum packing is a method of storing food and presenting it for sale. Appropriate types of food are stored in an airless environment, usually in an air-tight pack or bottle to prevent the growth of microorganisms. The vacuum environment removes atmospheric oxygen, protecting the food from spoiling by limiting the growth of aerobic bacteria or fungi, and preventing the evaporation of volatile components. Vacuum packing is commonly used for long-term storage of dry foods such as cereals, nuts, cured meats, cheese, smoked fish, coffee, and crisps. It is also for storage of fresh foods such as vegetables, meats, and liquids such as soups in a shorter term because vacuum condition cannot stop bacteria from getting water which can promote their growth. Vacuum packaging food can extend its life by up to 3-5 times.
