Thread: NO More Bragging for Me
-
Mon, Dec 28th, 2009, 03:29 PM #1
After this xmas holiday no more bragging for me to family/friends. I found that I got dumped on this xmas at one of the dinner's. Told I was not "frugal" but CHEAP, could not spend money, could not enjoy buying anything unless it was free or almost free (free dinners (contest wins) couponing etc.) Told I should get "a life". One person even told me that I probably got all the xmas stuff for free...the opposite is true....actually my hubby and I paid for every xmas gift with cash...no freebies this time round. BUT people still think their stuff was free. I coupon during the year but at xmas usually just buy instead...but people won't let you forget.
I think sometimes the best is not to say too much to family/friends as they just don't get it. Here on this board people love to save, see what they can get for almost free. It is time consuming to do this in the first place. Won't say too much to anyone anymore other than the board. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Poo on them! Does it matter how much it costs? If it matters to them- then its their issue. Why pay full price? Is it not the thought that counts? Selfish, greedy people p*ss me off! If it bothers them that much- next time don't give them anything and tell them you DID get it for FREE! It would shut them up real fast!

Yuck, sometimes family just sucks! It's their loss not yours. Now that your keeping the bragging to yourself, keep all the goodies to yourself too.
Next year at Christmas tell them you were unable to buy them any presents cause you got a 'life' as they suggested and used all the Christmas money paying full price for everything all year!!!

That's terrible! Some family/friends you've got! I get the occasional gentle teasing from friends/family, but it sounds like these people really let you have it! From now on, keep your brags online where they will be appreciated. Many people who don't share the same 'hobby' won't understand, and it sounds like they are tired of hearing about it. They are probably just jealous anyway

Not nice! Next year, buy them all a lump of coal, and include a receipt to prove you paid full price!
You're right, other folks often just don't get it. My mom or DH though, if they get something nice they KNOW I got a deal on it, and think it's great!
You know that your SC family will never trash your deals.

I agree brag away to us!! There is no shame is being cost savvy. If you find it fun and exciting to save like I do and that's its like a treasure hunt finding great deals then power to you and pass your deals onto people worthy to get them

I had someone say something negative about my coupons & the fact that I use a bundle buggy to do my grocery shopping because I don't have a car. I just told them I was glad they could afford to be a snob, but I couldn't.
