I really need to get something to clean our computer,it's very slow.I downloaded a free registry cleaner, but it only cleaned 100 problems and it shows our computer still has almost 800 problems!
What do you recommend?I was thinking of buying something at Future Shop. This thread is currently associated with: Future ShopArtificial Colors & Flavours in almost all our food... You should be concerned.Everyone should watch this...

ccleaner is awesome, and fast. Just started using it a month ago, and it works amazingly well!
Plus, it's free.

Also remember to defrag...

My BIL set these both up for us.. and it's been great.

You can't always believe some of these cleaners. Plus if your not careful, you can make things worse by using some of these register tools.
One of the biggest things that slow down computers is available space on your harddrive. That as well as viruses?
Some basic things to do
Delete your temp files
Delete Cookies
Remove any files that you really don't need
Remove any software your not using
Have you done a full Virus scan as well as Microsoft Melicious software removal scan?
I would be interested in knowing what type of system / memory / harddrive & Space avail, O/S running. Might have some other suggestions as well.Last edited by Davwpet; Tue, Nov 2nd, 2010 at 11:58 AM. Reason: Spelling error

To put your mind at ease about CCLEANER - PC MECH is a trusted source of reliable information - if you read the article, you should feel better about using the product.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
There are no guarantees with Registry Cleaners – you can cause damage using them – you should take a system image as well as backup your documents – pictures – music etc - before using any of these just in case, if you don’t and something happens, your installing the O/S again and you might lose your data.<o:p></o:p>

There is a 2nd article that talks about an add-on to the CCleaner to assist with other programs as well.<o:p></o:p>

Both are totally safe, and ccleaner, along with doing the defrag looks after the other things the poster mentioned - our computer is not that new, so we needed all the help we could to ensure all available space was used well - and freeing up space by using those programs has really helped with it being noticeably faster and just generally working better.
What antivirus, spyware, etc. are you using? They may need updating or running as well.
We use Windows Defender, AVG, and occasionally run SpyBot and AdAware -
Also make sure you are regularly updating your software.
Some info to read, and safe suggestions -

We use Norton 360 Premier Edition. It has top notch virus protection, and automatice updates. It also has a defragmentor.
The one thing i forgot to mention that our computer does is.....It won't let me view or download ANY kind of form online anymore,it just always says, 'this tab has been recovered'.Oh, and it won't Restore the computer to an earlier time anymore either.
I don't know what's going on,but I'm guessing if we bought some software to throughly clean our computer,it just might fix the problem.Artificial Colors & Flavours in almost all our food... You should be concerned.Everyone should watch this...

Here is another review of ccleaner, http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html
I agree with many of the other posts that it does a good job but there are no guarantees and you have to be very careful that you dont delete or alter an important .ini file that will completely stop you system from rebooting.
I think that your system is running slow from malware, download and run malwarebytes : http://www.techspot.com/downloads/47...i-malware.html, I am willing to bet that it will find alot in your system. This is one of the most trusted software that technicians use to speed up and get rid of malware.
Also check how many anti-virus software you have running and what version, some of the older ones actually really took way too much resources and slowed your computer. Only run one antivirus (newer ones use way less resources), and ensure when you press ctrl-alt-del that only 20 - 30 processes are running for most systems.
Hope this helps

HARD DRIVE space - how much FREE space do you have - if your in the 20% range FREE - then that could be causing your slow down!
When did it start to slow down, did you install something, change your O/S ??
If that is not the case and using the tools discussed are not working either, it may be time to re-install fresh and start all over!

If you need priority support from CCleaner, then click on the "Buy online and download".
If you are smart enough to run it yourself, there are 2 links below that big button square that allows you to download it and use it for free.
Don't be frustrated. Take your time and you'll find it's not that complicated.
