I'll contribute with some sad news.
My 13-year-old kitty hadn't been feeling well for the last week or so, so I took her to the vet this evening.
After an examination, they felt she was breathing hard and recommended x-rays and bloodwork at a cost of over $400. I opted for only the x-rays to start.
They showed fluid on the lungs and heart, likely heart failure. Nothing they could do.
I had to make the decision to euthanize her.
We've only had her two years, we adopted her and her companion from a family who had three kids under age four, and two were allergic.
So we still have her furry friend, I'm not sure if he realizes yet that she's gone (only been a couple of hours). I think he will be the last pet we have for a long time. While we get so much joy from our pets, when it gets to the point we have to make decisions like this, it just sucks. It's so hard.
