As most of you know, I haven't lived here in Montreal very long - a little over a year now.
Tonight I ran to the SAQ to pick up a couple bottles of wine and I made an observation that I had never noticed before.
When I bought the wine, I assumed I'd be paying the 12.5% (QST and HST) in tax on top of the shelf prices. But I didn't. The prices at SAQ were inclusive of the taxes.
Whereas, everytime I've picked up wine at the Grocery Store the taxes are in addition to the shelf price. So an $8 Bottle of Wine is really $9 with taxes.
Thus, the lesson learned for me is - buy my wine at SAQ. My personal cap on a bottle of wine is no more than $10 - but preferably around $8 or $9 for everyday consumption Around $15 when bringing wine to a friend's house
Is it like this at all SAQs?This thread is currently associated with: N/A"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - Mahatma Gandhi

Hello Tonester,
you should go to the SAQ depot you get a discount for the amount of bottles you buy (e.g.: 12 bottles = 15% off) and you can mix and match...alas it will never be as cheap as what you paid in the US... LOL

It it with everything at the SAQ, the tax is included in the price.
Even cheaper the SAQ has a few places where you could bottle your own wine, thus even even even cheaper...

Oh thanks for your information. I often think that SAQ only has more varieties but not price advantage as compared to grocery chains, but man am I wrong.
