Just wondering if it's me, or if other people have been encountering an above normal amount of "grumpy" cashiers??? Yesterday was WM, today was SOF North. Although I have to say the ladies at SDM Village mall are always cheery. And I had an amazing cashier at WM last week, who actually cheered that I was using coupons (we need more of her working the tills). So anyway I was just wondering if it was me getting the wrong cashier, or if they are all on "grouch patrol"

Also, where's your fave place to shop with coupons in Central Alberta? Do you have a favourite cashier?

SOF North cashiers I think are mostly a grumpy lot.My Mum thinks so too.I did have a grumpy cashier at Walmart Parkland Mall just after Christmas I only bought one thing. She says is that everything in a grumpy tone.I think she wanted me to buy more stuff.I go to Shoppers Village Mall I find they are very nice.I don't have a favourite place to shop with coupons or a favorite cashier.

RCSS is good... self checkout. Actually, have not had an issue with cashiers at reg tills.. but I honestly rarely go to them, lol.

Zellers seems hit and miss. If you see a cashier named Nicole (do they even wear name tags? no?)... she's awesome. Same name as my daughter (only my baby is spelt Nichole)--they hit it off, lol!

Another lady at Zellers, danno name.. she was awesome.. but then during a midnight amdness event, I went to her... she got frazzeled with all the wrong prices... and got clearly upset.. tried not tot ake it eprsonal.. haha... but i CAN be sensitive, hehehehe. but i have not gone to her since...

I do believe I had a coupon Nazi tonight at zellers and to make me even more mad, she wouldn't let me use my spc card because she didn't believe it was me in the picture of my student Id . Wth? It says my name andit totally looks like me. I offered to show her my license and she said "no I won't accept the spc card." maybe she didn't believe I am a student? Or cause it's from another city??? She also would only let me use one coupon so I had to go thru 6 times. I'm phoning head office to complain about her on Monday. I can't remember her name so I hope it's on one of my six flipping till slips. I have had crappy cashiers there but she takes the cake!

You are not alone. I had a seriously grumpy cashier the other night at Zellers too. She did not want to do all my coupons and she thought it unfair that I could use all 3 of the printable bonus points coupons. I seperated it into 3 different transactions so the bonus points wouldn't all be on the same one. I told her they were Zellers printables. She also needed to log them onto the sheet as none of them came up on my receipt. She didn't enjoy that either. Oh well. Poor her.

Sad you didn't get to use your SPC Melanie. That is terrible. I would complain too.

Ahmmm my cashier takes the cake. I went to Safeway in Parkland Mall the other night and had 6 coupons for $3 off each for any Listerine Zero and since Listerine Zero was on sale for $1 I wanted to use them and only pay tax. I read their policy carefully and it says if the item is less than the coupon, than the coupon will be adjusted down to the price that the item is. There will be no money given back to the customer. I made a mistake of not brining the policy with me, but I figured all stores should have policy handy. So, I go and grab 6 Listerine Zeros and have my 6 coupons ready. It was the only transaction I had. I even went straight to the customer service thinking I dont want to tie up the line, seeing how they only had 1 cashier working. When SHE Ashley came up to the desk I explained to her that I am purchasing 6 Listerine's and they are on sale for $1 so she will have to adjust the coupon. I shouldnt have said anything, and let her deal with it on her own but I always believe that honestly is the best policy. The item without my Savings Card would ring at $3.99 and she would see coupon on for $3 and wouldve entered it no problem and than when she would scan my card it would come down to overage and I should've just used it and gotten more things, doubt she would've even noticed.

Anyway, so I was honest and told her. The item is on sale for $1 and she needed to adjust the coupon to match the sale price. I also told her I do not expect money back from the store as thats against their policy. She was very standoffish and rude. She said, she cant use the coupon thats more in value than the item, it would mess them up at the end of the night. I said to her, all she has to do is cross out the $3 and write $1 instead so that when the manufacturer is giving money back they only refund what the customer paid. She said no thats not correct. I explained again that as per their own policy yes she can do it. Lets remember all this time she is giving me attitude like its going out of style. She than asks me slightly raising her voice "Show me where it says that in our policy".. I said to her I dont have it and than she should have it in the store. She cut me off mid sentance and continued to say she cant do it. I asked for supervisor or manager and she was so rude I cant even sit still writting this. I can take a lot from cashiers but do not, DO NOT, give me attitude. She goes over to talk to the supervisor, she is standing behind the boxes and I dont have a visual on her any longer. But I can see that she is trying to explain to the supervisor the situation. So, he comes over. And he is super nice. He tells me that she explained to him what was happening but he wanted to see what my questions were about it and to tell him more. So, I told him the same thing that I said to other girl. He says to me and to this day this frustrates the crap out of me: "Well, she explained to me what is happening and she says... and she this and that" and I am looking at him and going "Oh so she is the supervisor" of course not. Anyway, I told him that I have done this before and it was never a problem. But he is still going off on how she says it will mess them up at the end of the night. But I give him credit for not just telling me no and moving no, he actually took time to fix the problem and seeing how I was able to do it before he called the other store to find out. And whoever he talked to in the other store told him that I am right *SHOCKER*. So, I ended up paying .35 cents for 6 Listerine's Zero. But yes, they can adjust the price down, no matter what they tell you. And do not listen to Ashley. The best part of all is the fact that she had to come to the cashier and enter it all in. So, she got to see that I paid $.35 and was possible. At least she learned and will never give me problems again I know she aint gonna forget my face.

I never agree with or condone rude behaviour in customer service, but I do feel sorry for cashiers when dealing with a large number of coupons. As a former cashier I can imagine how this must make their cash out at the end of the night alot more time consuming. Yes the grocery store will get fully reimbursed but I imagine it quite upsets the cashiers day. This is no excuse for rude behaviour (in my opinion there is NO excuse for rude behaviour), just me playing devils advocate and offering the other perspective

No I see, how someone who is new or never trained on how to handle coupons, can have slight problem with it, but thats why there are managers and supervisors and senior cashiers available to help. No one is trying to deny them that. However, coupon will NEVER make your til short, its just more math than some people care for. Mind you, its very simple job. I used to be a cashier in retail and in casino and I never had any problems with coupons while in retail. When I hear such poor excuses these young girls these days give, it makes me wonder, do they honestly think work means not working a little harder? I bet she is one of these people who are always complaining how no one ever pats them on the back "Job well done" and are last people to jump in to help when needed.
I think first rule of any store is CUSTOMER SERVICE and I know you will agree with me

And oh no personal problem with you just saying!

London Drugs at Southpointe Common and Save On Foods at 67 St and the Easthill Centre allow you to stack in Red Deer.

I used to be a supervisor at a Sobeys in Calgary...Customer Service, which meant I along with another supervisor did cash out at night. Let me tell you...coupons dont mean much lol. When you ring out at the end of the night, you just have a total you have to match. Thats it. Its not as if you have to match each coupon you scanned during the day. Nope. So you can make it for whatever you want, as long as you can add it up at the end of the day.

Daytime cashiers at most grocery stores will be your best bet. They are those who want fulltime hours, and most likely have been there the longest, and thus, will know the most.

I am of the opinion that it is part of their jobs, just as price matching is part of their jobs, or checking prices, or the scanning code of practice. If cashiers do not like dealing with coupons, then they need to get a different job, as coupons have been around for years & years.
I do not think coupons will make theit cash out at the end of their shift.

What I want to know is: How do some of these crabby grumpy cashiers manage to actually keep their jobs? Yet you see them there day after day , still as grumpy and miserable as the day before? WHY?
SOme of the cashiers act like the coupons are being taken out of their pocket, they get so snicketty about it. Makes no sense to me, as the store gets all the coupon value back, no one is losing any money. OMG and when you try to stack at save-on-foods, they seem to study each coupon reading it over and over. Why , i mean if everything is ok on the coupon, date, item, canadian address, then it should be good to go. But not at save on foods east hill. Don't some of the cashiers understand that save-on is going to get every penny back from the manufacturer.
When i get a pleasant cashier, I take the time to thank them for their great service as i believe positive feeedback goes along way.
