I was in Sobey's on Friday when 2 different Et Tu Salads rang in wrong. I asked about SCOP and was told they don't have it. Then I saw the sticker regarding it and was told I got the sale price when I shouldn't have as only salads on top 2 shelves were on sale. I couldn't be bothered to stand my ground considering she was already confused and flustered after I caught her ringing in my Glad coupons for .10 instead of $10.00. So, I went to customer service and had no problem getting both my SCOP for an extra savings of $6.98

I did my first SCOP today! Normally I just let them correct the price and move on but today was a different story! lol.

The cashier was really rude and when I handed her my coupons she went over them in detail a couple of times, annoying but fine. Then because I was busy explaining the coupon I didn't realize one item rang up wrong. As I was walking to the car, I noticed it and told my husband who decided he would go back for the difference. I said he should ask about SCOP if he was going to go to the trouble.

Apparently the woman was really rude to him and said there was no such thing and walked away when he tried to explain. Then she returned just the one item, even though he asked her to return all of it and re-ring it through properly since it was at SDM. She said no!

So I had to go back into the store. There was a huge line up and I asked for the supervisor, the woman was very rude and demanded to know why. I felt so annoyed I said it was because "you apparently dont know your job". lol.

After waiting almost 10 mins I asked her to call again, she said the supervisor must be on break that I would have to wait. I calmly said then call a manager, I am not waiting any longer.

Finally the manager came and I explained what happened and that everything needs to be returned and rang in again in one transaction for the SDM points promo to be done properly. The manager agreed and then the casher yelled across the other customers that "it wasn't my fault, the guy didn't tell me to return everything". That made me even more annoyed. Trying to blame my DH, even though he asked her politely.

So, then I explained she didn't know about SCOP and that she said SDM doesn't do that, even though I know they do. The manager said absolutely and gave the item for $0.01. And then I bought another of the same item, so that I wouldn't be under the cut off for the SDM point promo.

When she returned everything (so that she could ring it in properly) she didn't even take off my regular optimum points! She said I deserved them for all the trouble. lol. It was super nice of her!!!! I told her I didn't want to be a pain but was frustrated that things always ring in wrong at that location and that the cashier was quite rude. I understand if you dont know the policy but there is no reason to be so rude!

By the end it was a matter of principle! Not sure if I would go to the trouble to SCOP again, but today I totally felt justified when the manager gave me the item for $0.01 and extra points for the trouble.

I just found out about the scanning code of practice last week and it came at the perfect time. Went to Shoppers Drug Mart today to get some tuna for the dog and decided I wanted a healthy loaf of multigrain bread. The bread was priced at $2.99 but when I got to the counter it rang up at $3.19. I told the cashier and she went and verified this.

Then she proceeded to void the $3.19 and put in $2.99. I said, "Don't I get it free due to..." At this point she cut me off and said, "Oh, yes" and rang it in for a penny. I believe this was because by now there were 2 other people behind me and she didn't want them to know about the SCOP.

The funny thing was I noticed the SCOP label on the door as I walked in and then I was reminded about reading it here on the forums last week. However, if it were not for the label on the door I believe I probably would have forgotten. Well I will not forgot about this anymore. The bread tasted extra good when I got home and made a roast beef sandwich. :)

I'm confused...why a penny?

The manager told me that they have to ring it in as $0.01 for the registers. When I did my SCOP, she just handed me a penny from the till. I really didn't mind being charged the $0.01. :-)

Wal-mart O.....this store does not abide by scanning code...managers lie and the store manager...well all he could say is l wasn't there...thats the old back up my manager saying if l have ever heard one....l told him to keep the item as they were going to give it to me for inconvienence rather than for a scanning mistake (but the item was priced wrong)....l checked it a second time to make sure..l told the store manager of the lies the department manger told me and again his response was maybe it was an oversite on the deptment managers part..another back my manager up sayingl have ever heard.
then he asked me what he should do to the department manager and me having extensive years in management l said l would fire her for lying to the customers... and if she lies to customers what lies is she saying against the Employees or putting in documents. Why would he ask me anyways...HES the Man In Charge...lol
Comsumers this was all over a 12 dollar item priced at 9.94
My beef was not about the item...but the out and out lies l was being told to make me look like l was the lier!!!!!!

Same thing happens at our Shoppers.

I work at a Wal-Mart and the other day I saw gross misuse of the SCOP.
A customer was buying a shirt from menswear and it was in a package that said $10 however it was ringing up as $12.
The SCOP states that NON-TICKETED items you can get for free.
However, this WAS ticketed. Which means the cashier can only correct it for the ticketed price. Plus, head office in Ontario hires an outside source called a "vendor" and they are the ones who missed changing the bag for that particular shirt.

The customer screamed and screamed for 20 minutes until she got it for free.
We actually got complaints from other customers about her disturbing the peace.
Not only did she make a fool of herself over $2, but she also grossly misused our system that we use as a courtesy.
Sometimes I think we SHOULD pull a Zellers and not do SCOP for this reason.

Please, please, PLEASE, do not misuse the SCOP.
You may think, oh, well this Wal-Mart doesn't need the money...well we do.
The majority of money goes to the head office and we need to beg for things not in our budget and WE have to cover the SCOP.

There are actually customers who spend hours and hours trying to find an item not correctly priced just to get it for free. I've seen it happen.

I don't care if you disagree with me (if you do, then you've probably never worked in retail or as a cashier) but this is my honest opinion. It only takes one person to ruin a good thing.

I've seen people want SCOP at the store where they were charged for the wrong item.They aren't entitled to SCOP.I've seen a man want an item at last week's sale price with out a raincheck they gave him last week's sale price was he happy no he wanted SCOP because he got charged the wrong price what a crazy man.Walmart also jips people on a SCOP by changing the price tags on things they wanted to buy.Lots of stores will correct the price but unless you bring up SCOP they sure won't do SCOP.

Yes, but if we told everyone, then we would be out of business.
And if we're out of business people lose jobs and people lose a major department store. We have two Walmarts and two Zellers in our city.
And both Zellers have little selection of merchandise (And will probably eventually close). Were would that leave our city?

It's hard to keep track of EVERY SINGLE PRICE or tag in a store that large. Also, we change the tag or sign right after because we want to avoid having to override the item several times over for several customers.

For example, one time a lady made such a huge fuss over peanuts. 2 out of the 4 kinds were on clearance. Each kind had a sign stating the CORRECT PRICE and CORRECT NAME. However, someone put ONE JAR of the kinds in the empty clearance section. So, we overrided it out of courtesy even though things were clearly marked. She then proceeded to brag to EVERY customer around her and soon a large crowd was grabbing like 8 jars each and demanding an override. I tried explaining that I was NOT allowed to do that because it was labeled correctly. One man became so upset he threw a jar at me and gave me a lovely black eye.

AND, I was told when I was a cashier that I would go on "coaching" or get fired if I ever told someone about the SCOP. I HAD to play dumb in order to keep my job. In fact one time a customer brought up SCOP and I said ok and called a manager for approval. Management ok'ed it and after the transaction finished, I was called out and belittled by my supervisor (not manager) because I had given away an item for free.

If SCOP covered everything that would equal disaster.
Have you ever seen on the movies when an apocalypse is happening or something and people go crazy and smash open store windows and steal items? Well, I imagine something like that would happen. Because, I hate to break it to you, but not everyone is as nice (and sane) as the people here on SC.

That's why I transferred to a department and very rarely go on cash.

SCOP is there to ensure stores price things correctly, if they don't they are not doing their job correctly and its their own fault they are out money. Participation in SCOP is voluntary so like Zellers, they do not have to be a part of it

I always check sizes / names etc against prices but have major issues at Walmart with SCOP, I once disagreed with the price on Stouffers Saute Sensations, advertised in the flyer and the shelves at around $5 but scanning at $6.97 - even with the flyer the cashier told me I was lying, so I asked her to PM it to their own flyer and she said she couldn't PM her own flyer. It is ridiculous what you have to go through to get a store to honour their own advertised price.

On the other hand, I was in SDM and a product scanned at the wrong price and the cashier told me hey you get this free - guess which store I prefer shopping at? Walmart loses money anyway because of the customer service received - how are they saving by forcing cashiers to give bad service?

I'm looking, but I don't see it..

You are entitled to the first item free per unique UPC, so if each item has a different UPC each item is free. You are entitled to one item free per unique UPC code.

I believe the actual sign stores put up by the entrance door and/or tills, has this on it... in less words. :)
