I think it Scanning Code of Practice. I say it like skop:) There should be a sign at the checkout. I find they are often low where they're not that visible. But I've also seen them on the front door of the stores too. The sign says this.......



Scanning Code of Practice

If the scanned price of a non-price item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your
complaint.

i know that when i used to work at Dominion as a cashier, no one followed SCOP and that if the customer doesn't mention it, we won't tell them...but then again i was i think one of the few nice cashiers that actually tell people they get it for free.....

Recently, we bought light fixtures for the whole house, they were all on sale but when we got to the cash, none scanned at the sale price. Result: $110 off of the total purchase.

So even though Zellers isn't on the list as participating in SCOP, they have to in Quebec?

In Quebec it is a law, merchants have to have a price ticket on all articles. But the government implemented an exception program but if the merchant decides not to have a price tag ont heir product, that's when they have to have price accuracy.

When the law was implemented, the big guys like Wal-Mart and Zellers were fuming as their cost to tag each article would have been too high so that's when the government implemented the $10 penalty when the price does not match the price on the shelf.

The law also prescribes that they have to have a print out of the rules well displayed right next to each cash register.

I have noticed that lately, Wal-Mart has a price tag on more and more products. I guess it is because of people like me...

i just used it like 5 min ago...
was at sobeys and got a small bag of lindt mini eggs for my friend, and rang up at the wrong price...after a little arguing, got it for free...
the cashier doesn't know anything.....

I was in Rona the other day purchasing a door knob and the display knob so ppl can see what they lok like out of the package was $16.95. When we found the knob we wanted from the display which has a number& letter we took it off the shelf which was marked $1 more.. didn't know whether to argue it at the cashier or not.. couldn't rmbr if Rona did SCOP and if this would count.. it had 2 prices, but don't they have to give the lowest price?..

I always forget about this until Saturday!!! I was at SDM buying easter stuff and some hair dye the new perfect 10...I was excited cause it was on sale for 13.99 from 15.99 and I had a 3.00 coupon! Went to the cash and it rang in at 15.99 so I said no its the wrong price, she called back to the beauty counter and the lady said that it was last weeks sale price, I said well the price is still marked down underneath the item, she clarified. I then looked down at the cash register and seen the SCOP sticker!!!! I said so I get 10 off right, she agreed and then proceeded to ring in my 3.00 coupon!! Perfect 10 = .99 cents!!! Happy Easter to me!

On friday I went to walmart and bought the Schneiders (okay i dunno how to spell it haha) prepacked meat with the $2 coupons,. The sign said $2.97 and they rang up at 3.27. I went to cust. service and told her and she started to give me the sixty cents back, i said "Uh dont you guys participate in the scanning code of practice? so shouldnt one of those be free?" So got kind of upset and said yes. Then I asked that since they were two totally different kinds with two very different barcodes shouldnt they really both be free? She said you can only get one item per person free, no matter if they're different. I've never heard of this before. Is this true?? Or should i have gotten them both free? Its not a huge deal either way since i did use two x $2 coupons, once I got the money back for one I already got them both free, but its the point of it. I've heard people here who got say 4 types of shampoo free since they're different scents and stuff. Thanks for any input!

SAVE ON FOODS in north vancouver have always reminded their cashiers about their scanning code of practice. Its like part of their training.. Maybe cashiers just forget about the whole SCOP practice..

My DD just had the same kind of issue at RCSS with Jello Pudding she had 2 different flavors so they had their unique UPC code on them they rang in wrong so my DD said to the cashier they rang in at the wrong price so they should be free with SCOP right, the cashier got irritated with her and rang them in a second time trying to make it look like she was deleteing them but my DD said hey you just charged me for them 2 times and both are the wrong price with dif upc so according to scop they are free the cashier said you might get one free but they are the same product so that will be all you get. My DD said just ring me through and then immediately went to CS line-up, she explained the whole thing to CS and they said no the cashier was right my DD said I know I am right let me speak to your manager. The CS manager came out and refunded the overcharge and then refunded the price of the 2 scop items as they had unique UPC codes and apologized to my DD said she will speak to the cashier for her attitude, ringing things in twice because she was PO'ed. The whole thing took about 5 minutes but while I was waiting I noticed the Splenda I bought had rang in at the wrong price so I scop'd that too. For my DD is was $4.00 for me it was $9.94 well worth the 5 minutes at CS.

It's definitely one of each UPC and not just one item per person. They both should have been free.

This seems to be a HUGE problem, i can guarantee about 75% of the time i go shopping i either get charged the wrong price, get the wrong change or the item is on sale and scans at regular price, it seems more & more we have to REALLY watch what is happening, i wish i knew of this today i just went shopping and it happened again today a $10 error that i caught

Another thing i have noticed is double tax, when you pay for an item that has both tax's on it each tax shold be charged seperate but sometimes if you check your receipt you see the 5% GST added first and then the 8% added so you are paying tax on tax, if you notice this you can fax the receipt to the tax dept ( in my area it is Whitby 905 433 5189) and attach a note explaining you would like them to investigate

here theyd just give you the first one free then give you back the difference that was wrong on the similar product.

I think since it was pretty similar I can see why they wouldnt want to SCOP it free either.

Stores don't ''have'' to participate in this program so I don't try to take over advantage of it because they can scrap it at any time. So I guess my feelings are the Scop program isn't a 'right' its a 'privledge'
