Hey everyone... I know I know, long time no type.

I did not have a good shopping day... lol. This incident occurred at Rexall. I usually shop at this particular Rexall all of the time because I love the selection and deals they have. Unfortunately, today I was very disappointed in the customer service I received. I planned on purchasing an eyelash curler and an eyeliner pencil. Both items scanned incorrectly at the till. The eyelash curler was supposed to be 30% off (all Revlon tools) and the PUPA brand eyeliner was supposed to be on sale for $12.99 (there was a sticker posted right underneath the display). Both items scanned at regular price.
I brought this to the cashiers' attention; she called the manager and I showed her where both signs were. She removed one of the stickers from the display, even though it said "valid until March 26" (today). I asked if Rexall followed the scanning code of practice since she did not mention anything to me; I also work in retail and know how this works. She said yes, I would pay 1 penny for the eyelash curler and pay whatever the eyeliner scanned as.
I told her that was incorrect, I should be getting each item free, or $10 off of an item costing $10 or more. She told me no, that I can only have 1 item for 1 penny and pay the full price of the 2nd item (even though it was supposed to be on sale for $12.99).
I told her no, they were 2 completely different items that BOTH scanned incorrectly, I should be getting them both for free. She was getting upset with me and insisting I pay full price for something that was not even SUPPOSED to be full price in the first place. I was very frustrated with her and she would not reason with me. I ended up leaving empty handed because I would rather take my business elsewhere, where the employees (ESPECIALLY the manager) know how policies work.
I did not appreciate being lied to... I work in customer service myself and I am well aware of how the scanning code of practice works. It is NOT the customers fault if items are scanning wrong at the checkout; they should not have to pay full price for something when it is clearly on sale. I do not think I will be returning to any Rexall shops in a long while, particularly this specific one. I cannot believe the woman running the store is treating her loyal customers in this manner. I did not appreciate driving across town (there is no local Rexall close to my house) to waste my time and gas. I am very upset with the whole situation.
P.S. I wrote to head office, I'll let you know their response. This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaplus, Rexall PharmaPlus

ss you had such a bad experience..stores need to pay closer attention to the rules of the scanning code of practice. Hope you get a better response from head office.

Give it all you've got, and I hope you get a satisfactory outcome.
Around here, if the item scans wrong, and I tell them the correct price in the flyer or on the ticket in front of the goods on the shelf, they just look annoyed that I caught them out. Then comes the confusing 'the price is really the regular price, not the sale price', OR 'we haven't got around to entering all our sales items on our computer' (even though it's the last day of the sale)." No such thing as SCOP here.
But I've persisted, and if I can prove the item is on sale in the flyer, they have to give it to me at that price.
With your retail experience, you should be able to reason with the Head Office and get fair treatment.

You were right!! Which location was this? I would certainly be contacting Rexall head office AND calling the SCOP hotline.

I would have gladly taken 1 of the items for 1 cent but that would mean bring forced to pay FULL price for another item that was on SALE to begin with. I think that's what I was most frustrated about. I can see getting the item for the SALE price instead of FREE, but why should I have to pay the FULL price ($5 more)??

I agree!! that's why i was afraid to go get the free reach toothbrush a couple weeks ago because whenever i have went to rexall there's always this rude old lady working there!! i remember when i was little as well walking home from school with my big sis and we went in there cuz they had this free sample thing of spring water and she got all pissy with us for having some, lol. The other times i went there they didn't seem nice either.
