What's being done about spam accounts?

It seems like I see at least one new account most days that has apparent;y been created for the sole purpose of posting spam, usually in the form of exactly six short, useless replies to different topics that haven't been active in some time. I seldom open them any more, basically only when I miss paying enough attention, but it's annoying just to see they're there.

So, I hope something can be / is being done about this matter.

I don't think there is a way we can stop them from making a new account, but I do delete those posts and ban them. Thanks to everyone who reports these spam posts.

I pm @couponlady the URL for the thread or post so she can work her magic BanHammer.

I also report the thread and mark it as expired if I have the option to do so.

I appreciate your efforts. It's unfortunate you can't do more to restrict the creation of such accounts and/or their posting rights.

Is no one reporting the posts? I see ones that are at least 12 hrs old. I report often but seriously 12 hrs and it's still up???

Could we up the ability to post links to 10 posts?

Yeah I know that won't stop the determined spam-bots but one of the reasons I'm not posting as often is the constant necromacing of years-old threads. I know @Boo Radley wants to keep all the threads active for some reason.

But it's getting silly the @Boo Radley isn't getting involved to keep his legacy spam free.
