Good morning, everyone!
Getting things ready here, so I can run off to the casino. Maybe today I'll spend $7.50, instead of the $5 I usually spend.
As far as studying history in school is concerned, we learned Cdn history in Gr 6 & Gr 9. Gr 7 was a bit of world history & ancient civilizations, but nothing in depth. Gr 8 was all about world geography. Gr 10 & 11 history was all pre-19th century stuff, with Gr 11 concentrating on the Renaissance. Not a lot about WWI & WWII in all my yrs at school.
But, I grew up hearing first hand accounts of life in wartime. My parents were kids during WWII, & they were the "enemy", so saw the bombings first hand. My Dad doesn't talk much about his life during the war - he was a bit older & he had to spend the better part of a yr living under a bridge when the apt building he lived in (in downtown Budapest) was razed to the ground by bombs. My Mom remembers being about 5 & having to run down into the root cellar when the sirens sounded & the bombing was heard in the distance (she was in a suburb of Budapest). She has great stories of spending a couple of yrs living on her Grandparents' farm on a border town (where she was sent to be safe from the bombing) - some sweet stories of soldiers showing kindness to the village children.
If anyone's interested, I'll post some stories tomorrow, when I'm back.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

I went to school in Quebec, and I can't remember learning about WWI or WWII, and that was over 20 years ago... History was all about how North America came to be discovered, and the fights between English and French, and eventually Americans and English.
