I just came back from our post office and they said there would be no mail delivery in Gull Lake, SK on Friday, June 3. They also said that the letters I mailed would be stuck in Swift Current, SK and didn't know when they would be sent out. So everyone might be without postal service even though it is a rotating strike.

I'm kind of confused on this rotating strike thing. Could someone explain? Would we still get mail? If I were to send something out, would it still be delivered in a (somewhat) timely manner?

Add me to the list of confused. In articles I've read online recently and on here, it indicates the strike will start in Winnipeg BUT they also indicate there will be no mail delivery throughout the entire country. Or at least this is how it reads. Maybe the rotating strike location is only for the large depot locations, I still don't think the mail will actually be delivered.

My understanding of a rotating strike is that for 24 hours the postal workers in Winnipeg will not be working. So no mail delivery Friday in Winnipeg. Then it's the weekend. If there's no agreement by Sunday night they will likely announce another city for a 24 hour strike. I'm not sure if processors will strike over the weekend (since they likely work weekends otherwise, but I'm not sure). So mail will be delayed but likely not by much. Hopefully they settle soon.

Also, in terms of paying your bills - if you're not an over-the-phone/online person, you can likely pay them at the bank. Back in the day (and I'm only 32!) I paid my university tuition at the Bank of Montreal. It was quicker and safer than sending a cheque.

This article really cleared it up for me and unfortunately not very good news.

They are off the job in Winnipeg, so no mail delivery there, today we'll get more information about further locations and what to expect. I think everyone is still hoping to avoid country wide striking.

The union representing Canada Post workers say a strike, expected to last 48-hours, will start in Hamilton at 11:45 p.m tonight.
The first round of rotating strikes started in Winnipeg last night.
