Hi, I want to transfer some aeroplan miles from my mum's account, Can I do something to wave the 0.02CAD/mile fee ?

Add, my mum took a flight to the States, can I add these miles to my account?

    Cheers,

I've never been able to find away around the "transfer fee".

Not sure about adding other people's mileage to your accounts. Good luck!

If either of you has enough points for a flight, I think you can just redeem the flight FOR them. Then there's no transferring to be had.

Only the person actually flying is the one who can earn the points.

    It isn't.

I've been booking travel as a part of my job for the past seven years and there is, unfortunately, no way to get around the Aeroplan fees.

It's a bummer. We looked into it extensively last summer, too, since my DH has wayyy more points than I do.

It's a rip. We should be allowed to transfer since we paid to earn the miles in the first place. Ahhh well, I guess I should just be happy that I have points!

With the amount of aeroplan fees, surcharges and "taxes" that are added, sometimes it's a better deal to just buy the ticket if one is flying economy on highly popular domestic/transborder routes with plenty of competition..... ie. YYZ-YVR/LAX/YYC/YHZ. Definitely a ripoff to transfer points.

Funny, I was browsing on Kijiji earlier and someone wants to buy 75,000 Aeroplan miles. If it costs .02 per mile to transfer them, wouldn't it cost about $1500 for this? He's only offering $1,000!

This is just a curiousity for me, I don't collect Aeroplan.

A lot of Aeroplan members have millions of points and can't even use them all so for them it's an easy $1000 being that they technically have no monetary value.

    It's like selling a $10 coupon you don't need for $5

Oh I get that part! But if it costs $1500 to transfer them, why would you accept just $1000 for it? Unless the buyer were also picking up that additional $1500 cost.

Could be a remote chance it's a 'sting' operation by aeroplan. bartering and selling miles is against the rules of the program, so they could be looking for a way to confiscate an offending account. I know people were bartering Elite upgrade certificates on ebay until aeroplan/air canada put a stop to it by printing names and aeroplan number on them.
