OHIP Confusion

Okay, so either way, I'll be getting my OHIP card soon, since my Permanent Residence status is approved, just waiting to get the letter (which was mailed last week, so fingers crossed I get it this week), but I'm a bit confused.
I went ahead and filled out my form today and was writing down what documents I need, and it says a landed immigrant is able to get an OHIP card if they've lived here for 3 months.
So, could I have gotten mine last year, even if I didn't have PR status, yet?
If so, I'm gonna be so upset, because I had lived here for over a year before I had Luna, and I paid the hospital co-pay..would've been so much nicer if it were free, lol.
Also, just double-checking, but epidurals are covered under OHIP? I thought they weren't covered, but someone told me hers was covered and from Googling, it looks true. And just to double-double-check, if they are covered, does Brampton Civic Hospital cover it? (Cause DH thinks it might be based upon the hospital.)

Not sure about Ontario because I had DS in BC...but epidurals are covered under MSP (BC's version of OHIP).

I believe you could of applied 3 months after you moved here but not 100%, the best thing to do is contact OHIP, I am sorry Im not much help,this might give you some help...

Out of my own experience, it depends on whether you applied for Permanent Residence INLAND or OUTLAND.

I applied outland (through a Canadian Visa Office abroad - depending on the country of your nationality), those 3 months they mention, means that the day you land as a Permanent Resident, 3 months after that date you will get your OHIP coverage. You can apply at any time but the coverage kicks in after 3 months.
So let's say you land as a PR today, May 19, your OHIP coverage will start August 19.

If you applied inland the rules are a bit different. Once the person that sponsored you received a letter saying they are approved as a sponsor, so the first stage approval (I believe this step is done in Vegreville)



The outland part I am sure of, the inland part is what I read while being obsessed with those immigration websites while our file was in process

This is a fun and tricky thing as I understand it. I'm in Ontario and my Husband is American, we jumped through the hoops, followed the rules and waited until 3 months after he recieved his PR to apply for his OHIP. As per our Immigration lawyer, "if you would have came to Canada on a boat or to the border seeking asylum you could have recieved your OHIP alot sooner".

It's probably really best if you contact these agencies and the hospital directly, that way you will get the most accurate information.

Well, like I said, it`s not that huge a deal because DH already got his approval letter 2 months ago, then I sent in my medical exam and the status is that they `reached a decision and are mailing the results`.
I`m just curious to see if the $1250 and the co-pays I had could`ve been free my last pregnancy.

Epidurals are covered in Ontario - had one with each of my kids!
