Northern Lights Visible Across Canada Tonight

If the sky is clear where you live, head outside tonight for a possible light show. For the past few nights, the northern lights, or aurora borealis, have been visible across Canada. If you’ve missed them, you’ll get a chance again tonight. It's caused by a massive coronal hole, an area where the magnetic field opens up, allowing particles to stream out and travel along the solar wind. When these particles reach Earth, they alight the sky with beautiful curtains of green, red and purple.

Canada Beats Europe 2-1 to Win World Cup of Hockey 2016

Canada is still on top of the world when it comes to hockey. Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand scored late in the third as Canada beat Europe 2-1 last night to win the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Canada has won 16 straight games in best-on-best format, with its last lost coming in round-robin play at the 2010 Olympics.

Orioles Pull Even with Blue Jays

The Blue Jays and Orioles are all square again in the race for the top American League wild card. Baltimore shut down Toronto's offense for a 4-0 win at Rogers Centre. The victory leaves the two clubs tied with three games remaining apiece. Toronto finishes the season in Boston.

The city council ordered street lights to be turned off in most neighborhoods for an hour Wednesday night to help improve the visibility of the Northern Lights spectacle. Residents were also encouraged to turn off the lights in their homes to help reduce light pollution in the city. The council also urged motorists to take care while driving. "
