Sears Canada extended warranties to run out today

Expect it to be organized chaos for Sears all day. As the company gears up to start liquidation sales later this week, today is the last day the retailer will honour extended warranties. The company said it’s still looking for a buyer for its repair business, but it's not known if a sale will go through or under what terms the repair service would operate. Sears also finds itself in court again today to approve retention bonuses for key employees to oversee the liquidation of the company.

Ontario’s ‘smoke-free’ strategy

We’ll learn more today about the province’s over-the-top plan to make Ontario smoke free. A committee set up by the Wynne Liberals will hold a news conference to discuss its just-released report on how to modernize the provinces smoke-free strategy. The 10-year strategy recommended by the committee has a number of targets, including increasing the number of people who successfully quit smoking in Ontario to more than 80-thousand a year from 45-thousand. Tthe strategy also calls for reducing smoking-related health costs by 4.1-billion dollars by 2023 and to have less than five per cent of Ontarians smoking by 2035.

Andersen earns shutout as Leafs beat Caps

Gord Downie, the legendary front man of the Canadian rock band the Tragically Hip, has died at the age of 53.In a statement posted online, the band confirmed that Downie died on Tuesday night, “with his beloved children and family close by.”
“Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips,” the statement said.
