Spring storm to bring heavy rain, winds to GTA

A special weather statement has been issued as April showers are expected in a big way. A ‘Colorado low’ pressure system is expected to bring as much as 30 millimetres of rain to the GTA. The system will arrive this afternoon with the brunt of the rainfall happening overnight. A sharp arctic cold front associated with the low will blast across the region early tomorrow morning as well, with strong southwesterly winds on the way.

Giorgio Mammoliti not running for PCs in Ontario election

No Giorgio in the provincial election this June -- City Councillor Giorgio Mamolitti has informed provincial Tory leader Doug Ford that he will instead be eyeing re-election on Toronto city council instead. Mammoliti admitted that he's confident he would have won the Brampton Centre riding. This wouldn’t have been his first kick at the can in provincial politics either. Mammoliti was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 1990 as the NDP MPP for Yorkview. Meantime former Ontario PC leadership candidate Christine Elliott says she will be seeking the nomination to run as the Tory candidate in the provincial riding of Newmarket-Aurora. Elliott narrowly lost the PC leadership race on March 10 to Ford and initially questioned the results of the vote before conceding nearly a full day later. Elliott, who represented the riding of Whitby-Oshawa from 2006 to 2015, has mounted two other unsuccessful bids to helm the party.
