Stratford Festival to resume after opening night bomb threat

Police in Stratford, Ont., say all buildings at the Stratford Festival have been turned back over to staff following a bomb threat that cancelled the official opening night of the 2018 season. Police had said on Monday evening that they received a call that explosives had been placed at the theatre festival. Festival officials were alerted and both the Avon and Festival theatres were evacuated as a precaution. Police officers swept the scene for suspicious items or packages and announced early Tuesday morning that areas around the theatres “have been opened up but did not indicate if anything suspicious had been found during the search.

Police to provide update on Mississauga restaurant blast that injured 15

Police in peel are set to provide an update today on the investigation into an explosion at a Mississauga restaurant that injured 15 people last week. Investigators are set to answer questions from the media and appeal for witnesses in addition to providing an update. It’s alleged two suspects detonated an IED inside the restaurant before fleeing on foot and then jumping into an unidentified vehicle. Fifteen of the approximately 40 people inside the restaurant were injured, but all have since been released from hospital.

Vegas wins Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

It was Vegas drawing first blood in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights skated to a 6-4 win over the Capitals in Game 1 of the finals last night. Game 2 goes tomorrow night in Vegas.

CP Rail train operators go on strike

Despite its best efforts to hammer out a deal with Canadian Pacific Rail, union officials simply couldn't and now more than 3000 conductors and engineers are on strike. Workers launched a legal walkout at 10pm last night, though union officials say they are willing to stay at the bargaining table during the strike in the hopes of reaching a deal. The good news is the strike won't affect commuter train services in Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver, since trains in those centres are operated by Bombardier, not C.P.. Another union that was also poised to strike ended up reaching a last-minute agreement, meaning 360 signalling workers with C.P. Rail will remain on the job.
