Has anyone been watching the planets lately? In the evening after sunset there are 4 of them lined up starting with brilliant Venus low in the west, then Jupiter in the SW, followed by Saturn in the South and brilliant ruddy Mars to the left of Saturn. These luminaries are brighter than the stars around them so you should be able to pick them out.

Also, these days just before sunrise, you might be able to spot Mercury low in the ENE sky.

Check them out if you can.

Ford gov't to table new bill to cut council; invoke notwithstanding clause

All eyes will be on Queen’s Park today. The premier will recall the legislature today to reintroduce a bill that would slash Toronto city council nearly in half. A judge struck down bill 5 earlier this week. Doug Ford vows to use a constitutional provision to override the decision that found his plan violated the free expression rights of municipal election candidates and voters. The provision, known as the notwithstanding clause, has never been used before in the province of Ontario. The premier has also vowed to appeal the judgment, alleging the court was interfering with a democratically elected government.

Hurricane Florence nears Carolina coast

A devastating blow is coming to the Carolina coast as Hurricane Florence remains at category four status. Flooding rains and deadly winds will impact residents from South Carolina through Virginia, where states of emergency are in place. Evacuations have been in place for days and residents fleeing encountered empty gasoline pumps and depleted store shelves as the monster storm nears the coast. While some said they planned to stay put, despite warnings that include the homes of more than 5.4 million people on the East Coast, a steady stream of vehicles full of people and belongings flowed inland Tuesday.

Red Sox become first team to clinch playoff spot with win over Jays

The Boston Red Sox have become the first team in the majors to clinch a playoff spot this season. Boston beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Today is...

Players and fans in Humboldt are looking forward to the Broncos opening their season tonight in front of a sold-out hometown crowd. Their opponent is the Nipawin Hawks, the same Saskatchewan Junior A hockey team the Broncos were on their way to play on April 6th when their bus collided with a tractor-trailer at a rural intersection. Sixteen people, including 10 players, were killed and 13 players were injured.
