I'd like to thank you for all your kind words of support. They really do help. A bit, anyway.

I know the next couple of days will be extremely tough - and for now, all I can say is "I'm glad I've got a mute button on my phone". On a call now sitting at my desk and went to grab my coffee. Sitting beside my coffee is a resealable bag containing milk bones. I kept them close at hand because Bailey used to keep me company in my office when I was working from home. Not too sure my colleagues and clients on the call would have understood the heartbreaking wail that just occurred.

When we came home from the vet, I was OK putting her toys away and emptying out her water bowl (although her bowls are still on the floor). I decided I wouldn't hurry and would just work at whatever pace that I had the strength to work to. I guess it's the "unexpected" I really have to be wary of ....

We ourselves cannot Mend a Broken-Heart...
We can only sit with You as it slowly Heals.
It will take Time; that You already Know.

When the Time is Right, we will be Here for You.

I am too I'm still crying my eyes out, that video was sooo touching!!!! It really is totally heartbreaking when something happens to our pets, just the thought of it makes me cry!!!! We become sooo close to them and they give us so much love.......

I'm so sorry to hear of Bailey's unexpected illness... letting her go must have been a really tough decisioin to make but you made the right one. I hope you can find some comfort in the coming days and weeks.

Excerpt of an email this morning to my boss ....


Bailey was released from the Veterinary Emergency Clinic’s ICU and we had her home for the weekend; she will be going to her own vet today to be put down.

After a multitude of tests, it was discovered that Bailey has a small mass on her spleen (operable) and a growth on the wall of her heart (inoperable). This heart mass is what caused the bleed into the heart sac which, in turn, caused the life-threatening arrhythmia. It was also the cause of what presented as digestive issues on Thursday morning – there just wasn’t enough blood pumping through her abdomen and digestive track to allow for proper functioning.

The veterinary internal specialist indicated that with her heart tumour, she can go at anytime. The actual phrase was, “We don’t know how long she has. It could be two hours, two days or two weeks – but no more than two weeks.” We made the decision when we picked her up that we would spend a quiet weekend at home and then take her in on Monday. This also allowed time for (Kidlet) to come home to say her good-byes.

Since having the fluid on her heart tapped, Bailey has been on medication to help with the arrhythmia. We have been told by the vet that her condition is not painful – but clearly the dog was in severe distress on Thursday and I don’t want her to have her to go through that again. This is one of the most painful decisions I have ever had to make, but as painful as it is for me, I know it is absolutely the right thing for my wonderful and loving four-legged friend and companion.

you have me in tears, Agro after reading that. i feel your pain & loss from losing a beloved pet, family member & a dear friend. although it will be tough these next few days, know that we are here for you. my deepest sympathies for your loss.

So many of us have felt the crushing sadness you are feeling right now. So sorry your family has lost Bailey, such a beloved member of your family.
Knowing you did the right thing by giving her a dignified exit sure doesn't make it hurt any less. You'll be in my thoughts.
