Hicksy, not sure the brand of your product but I have used a small hand saw for the excess before, just have to be careful how close you get to the wall or trim. Needs to be a strong blade and maybe wear a scarf around your face or a mask of some kind.

A flush cutting saw is ideal for the flat surfaces

Thanks for the suggestion. Mechman, I've never seen a 'flush cutting saw'.
I have gathered up a few tools, & well, we'll see which works the best.
Probably, different ones for different spots.
All this home maintenance stuff just isn't my forte.
