Happy Mother's Day - You know who you are

My Mother’s Hands

My mother has never liked her hands.
She thinks they are ugly.
Too crooked. Too dry.
Too short nails. Too swollen.
Too red.
I love her hands.

When I see the crooked fingers,
I am reminded of all the Barbie clothes those fingers have sown.
Do you know Barbie requires two stitches as a dart at the bust
I love her fingers.

When I see how dry her skin has become,
I am reminded of all the moments those hands have offered comfort with their gentle touch.
Do you know you can tell your mom s touch over all others
I love her skin.

When I see the short nails,
I am reminded of all the wonderful projects we have done over 35 years.
Do you know you can be as adept at swinging a hammer as you can be at sewing
I love her nails.

When I see how swollen her fingers have become,
I am reminded of all the sacrifices she makes to be able to do things for me, even though she is suffering.
Do you know you can be a much happier expectant woman with a clean home
I love her fingers.

When I see how red her hands are,
I am reminded of her favourite colour.
Do you know purple and red look great together on my mom
I love the colour red.

I look at my own hands.
They are crooked. They are dry.
The nails are short. They are swollen.
They are red.

I see my mother’s hands.
And I pray my hands keep looking like my mom's.

I love my mom's hands.

Happy Mother's Day!

My folks are coming over for a Mother's Day lunch (they're bringing us food, so maybe it's Daughter's Day? or Critter's Day?). My friend whose Mom passed away last month is hanging out with family today, so one less worry for me (for the moment, we still chat til all hours on the phone and D's coming over for another visit next weekend - hoping today is not too stressful for the poor thing).

Better get some things done - have some strawberries to puree (not sure if I'll be making smoothies or daiquiris) and a kitchen to tidy up.

Fifth race with NO safety car...exceptional driving.. Benzs started 1&2 nowhere to be seen, Red Bull doesn't seem to have the pace of the Ferraris it's going to come down to who manages their tires best! Kimi's got to go 20 laps on his final set..that's a long stint.
