Pan Am Games Salon Cost Taxpayers $140K

According to the Toronto Sun, Pan Am organizers paid $140,000 to a private contractor to run a temporary salon, providing athletes free haircuts and manicures. Organizers of last summer’s (mostly funded by taxpayers) Pan Am Games also paid separately for towel service, cleaning, utilities, Internet connections, washing stations, meals for staff, and $18.2K in GST/HST charged for the contract, according to documents.

Eagles' Glenn Frey Dead at 67

Eagles' founding member and guitarist Glenn Frey has died. He was 67. A statement on the band's website confirms the sad news. "Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia," the statement says.

Andit, sorry to hear about your friend's dad.

It seems that everyone is passing away these days. That article about rock stars in their twilight years was a very interesting read. These stars have always been a little older than me, but as they age, I am also aging. It sort of makes you think. Before, a rock and roll death was about choking on your vomit, or a drug overdose. Now, a rock and roll death can be redefined as complications of some minor ailment, or of natural causes.

I was watching Much Music on Sunday and there was a marathon of shows about David Bowie's career. I would imagine that this weekend there will be something similar about Glenn Frey on Much Music. Boy, I can't even remember the last time I watched that channel!
