I've noticed in the last month or so that alot of the retailers including SD, Rexall and Safeway are using alot of precentages or dollar amt off the items in their flyers instead of a sale price now? It is obviously to stop us from taking their flyer over to the competitors that will price match it.

I haven't really noticed it any more than usual. It's usually when it's a group or line of products on sale, where the prices are really varied.

It also allows for individual stores to hike up the original price pre-sale, making it sound like 50% off is a great deal. One B1G1 sale this past week had regular goldseal flaked tuna selling for over 2.00 a can - I could buy two at most stores in town and not pay that much!

I've noticed a lot of 'x%' prices in flyers lately, too. Especially SDM, but also LD. It makes me crazy because I like to plan my shopping trip in advance and know what I'm buying to the penny! At least with LD I can go online and look up the prices of individual items- I LOVE that feature. I wish all stores had digital inventories with current prices.

Us SC's know better than to fall for that .... but others they see that 1 cent deal and they are all over it! I have really been watching the flyers and know just how low an item will go over the course of a few months. To some a deal in Walmart is not anything I would jump all over, cause I know I can get it for even cheaper.

I just saw the safeway flyer and it's driving me crazy.
It's like $5 off... club price.
:/ Come on Safeway, stop being dodgy little marmots.

It makes sense for the business though - especially now that Walmart is heavily promoting price matching. Our flyers come on Thursday evening. DW and I will sit with the flyers and determine what we need ... want ... and what's just too good of a deal to pass up (SDM / $2.99 Purex & we have 2 x 3$ off coupons
)
Now we just circle the item in the flyers that have the best deals and often just head to WM. We've not had any issues at WM with the price matching, plus they haven't yet questioned any internet printed coupons. So now, as the savy shopper, we not only save on the product, but the gas as well
and normally don't have to deal with the limited stock that often is associated with these good deals at many other stores.

Yes ... I do the exact same thing with my flyers. I don't even step foot into the other stores, except Walmart to do my shopping now (unless it is specific product/size for that particular store). I love my one stop shopping and with all our Walmarts being turned into supercenters it is going to be even better. Bye bye RCSS!
With the other retailers making these changes to their flyers it makes it difficult to get some of those deals though. I know I had trouble once at the walmart with the safeway flyer. Cashier said they won't PM when it says "club price". Whateva, I left it that time, but have since done it numerous times.

I've noticed it too - and since I don't pricematch, that's not why it bugs me.
As I get flyers, I make up a master shopping list. If I see the Safeway flyer, for example, and they are having a BOGO sale BUT don't put the prices in, they don't get any business from me that week! Actually, there were too many times that Safeway AND Rexall have doubled the price, then put the item on BOGO - that irks me to no end! We shoppers know average prices of items, for gosh' sake!
At least Sobey's and Co-op put in most of the prices when they have a BOGO sale. Then you can at least judge if it's an item you want on your list.
As for percentages, well, just forget it. Doesn't give me any information at all.

I hate those percent off prices! Mostly because I have no idea what the original price was. lol

Chances are if it's B1G1 or a % off that it's not really a great deal anyway!
