I know I've read many people here complain about Canada Post and I'm now going to officially launch a complaint with them. I'm SICK and tired of receiving envelopes that have been clearly opened and than resealed with tape. I'm also sick of receiving envelopes that have been opened partially. I'm sick of NOT receiving mail that I'm expecting at all. And I'm sick of the fact that the delivery times are INSANE with Canada Post.

A bit ago I did a lot of trading on here for Ensure Coupons as I was collecting them for my Uncle. I mailed those coupons to him the last week in March. I had included a letter asking him or my Aunt to let me know when they get the envelope and hadn't heard anything from them. I talked to my Aunt tonight and she says they haven't received anything from me. I mailed it over 3 weeks ago and they live in Burlington and I'm in St.Catharines, so they should have received it by now. I'm sooo freaking frustrated with Canada Post! If any of you have complained to CP, can I ask who you contacted? Or should I just poke around the CP site?

    April 17 Update:

Well, CanadaPost still sucks so there is nothing new to report on that front However I got the, "it's out of our hands" response to my issue. And get this, my Uncle got his envelope yesterday. I mailed that envelope on March 28 and it arrived in Burlington yesterday, April 16.

It took 19 days to go from St.Catharines, On to Burlington, On. A city which is a mere 60kms from here and in the same province. Now I know why sadly some trades are taking 3+ weeks to make it across country, but this is absolutely ridiculous!

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Unfortunately, Canada Post can not follow up, on any missing mail with out a tracking number. As for the open letter, that is actually a crime to open someone elses mail. The next this happens, hold onto the mail as you receive it and contact CP. They may or may not, send out a Supervisor/Inspector to check it out. At the very least, the sorting depot will hear about it.

IMO, contacting CP, did help me in resolving some of the problems that I was having.

    Good luck to you.

in my experience they did nothing... i had a lot of issues in dec/ jan of mail being sent out and never getting to where it should have, and anything i sent from a different post office seemed to get thru eventually, but at this one, it never seemed to... so i contacted the store (it was a po inside of a store) and they said they would look into it and pass it on to cp, they never did pass it on to cp

i called cp and reported it, with a lot of details, including approx days, times, how many envies and what exactlly what in the envies, and they stated they were going to look into it and get back to me... well still waiting for them to get back to me and i contacted them either in late jan or early feb... i just no longer use that post office... well other than to buy stamps

Wow, I never knew that there were incidents like this before - opening mail? Really?

There have been quite a few people that have posted here that they've received opened mail. It's happened a few times on my Credit Card statements. I think someone was looking to see if there was an actual credit card in there. I informed my CC company that my statements have come opened so they put special notes on my account. I did mention that to CP and was simply told, "well it could have happened at anytime after it was in your mailbox."

Canada Post customer service is awful, not even worth talking to most times.

I have to say though for the most part they've been pretty reliable. Slow, especially on international shipments (primarily to the US for some reason), but decent. Lettermail I find is usually fairly reliable as I've shipped a lot of DVDs and video games that way (can't complain about $2 to ship "oversized lettermail" anywhere in the country), usually takes a week or so and I'm in a rural area.

For actual parcels, I tend to use Purolator. Canada Post is extremely slow for some reason delivering larger packages out of Newfoundland (though inbound isn't too bad). I can get a package from Ontario in somewhere around a week (reg. parcel/expedited) but sometimes it takes over 2 weeks to send one there.

Today I got the L'Oreal Paris Lash Serum in a box that had already been torn open entirely on one end. But since L'Oreal had sent a note indicating that the offer was one I was expecting, maybe that's why I still got it.

The PO didn't think to mark the package 'damaged or opened', and when I showed it to them at the counter, the clerk just said indifferently that probably it just wasn't glued enough. I showed her the other end which had the same amount of glue but was unopened, and told her that I'd be contacting the company regarding the tracking of the package and condition their package was received in the mail. The clerk has a stock response, but I know from the past, I have contacted CP directly to lodge a complaint, and they were surprized I was regularly receiving opened and damaged mail without the staff placing a sticker on my envie or package to that effect.
Some sloppy or dishonest staff in the mix here.

Nowadays, with all my coupon trades and coupon/freebie orders, I make it a point to step to the PO side counter with my mail, and write the date received on each envie, and also make note regarding the condition. I've noticed the staff really watching me as I do this. At times, they have also shown a curiosity about the freebies I receive, and have told me that if something doesn't show up, I should just order another one; to which I told them that the orders were specific and there was only one allottment and it was being tracked. Ever since I started treating this matter more seriously, I do receive more of my freebies, though damaged and opened mail still happens at times. IMO, we shouldn't have to go to all this trouble to make sure our mail gets to us, but in the world we live in there are lots of people who can't be trusted; therefore, we need to be proactive.

I actually have nothing bad to say about Canada Post. I order a lot from the USA through ebay, and rarely ever get charged duty. Plus two weeks ago I was expecting a large package and Canada Post actually called me because they couldn't make out the delivery address. I was shocked they would take the time to call, but they can be helpful.

Just yesterday I found out that Canada Post has 'lost' my pension re-application in the mail (a very small pension, but still the only money coming in at times to keep the wolf from the door). This application was 25 pages of important documents containing all of my income tax papers and T slips, including my bank info and SIN info. I had mailed it in a manilla envelope, taped around all sides and on the folds, and weighed for postage on March 15. Only yesterday, I discovered that it never got to the department it was sent to at all. Nobody knows where it ended up, though my name is clearly printed on the left front side and the address is clearly printed in the center.

I spent all yesterday afternoon frantically calling departments to deal with the situation: I will now have to reapply, will have to find and prepare more copies of all of this info, will have to pay for more postage, and this time also pay to have the envelope sent as registered mail, will have to send in a complaint to Canada Post, will have to wait several more weeks before my re-application is assessed and approved when this should have happened in March, also have to deal with adjustments to my rent (which is based on the pension). All because someone in Canada Post was careless (even if it was misdirected, it should have got back to me), or dishonest (maybe willfully confiscated all of my personal information). What happened??? Somebody has all my documents with sensitive info.
This envelope didn't just disappear into thin air.

The department that it was sent to told me they've had these problems before. This whole thing is infuriating!

We recently advertised a job and had candidates sending in 2+ copies of the application documents. When I contacted them to say we already had them, they said they had used tracking and it said it wasn't delivered. So I contacted Canada Post who told me, well you got too much mail so we didn't scan them, just delivered them. But they happily took the extra $$ people paid for tracking they didn't do

You should always send something of this importance registered or express... I wouldn't take a chance sending it regular letter mail and I work for the Post office...things get lost all the time and there are def. some bad apples even after the background checks that slip in through the cracks and steal things.

It's obvious that ALL union members need to go awhile without a job/money to discover just how important that particular job is/was, they are just taking too much advantage with their job these days.
After about 1 year without it they would appreciate it a whole lot more don't you think.
