I have no idea where to start when it comes to choosing a brand of freezer and where to shop for one . We already have a small chest freezer but I use that for our dogs' meat. I do know I'd like an upright as I hate hanging head first and digging to the bottom of ours to ensure rotation. Do any of you have preferences? Advice? Which models you'd recommend or not? And the best places to shop?

We were gifted an upright from an aunt and we'll NEVER go back to a chest freezer. It's so nice to be able to just open the door and have everything organized nicely on shelves.

we have both.. a chest we've had 15+ years. works like a charm. but a PITA
and we bought an upright off of Kijiji a few years back for $50.. im in love with it.. can see everything at a glance. easy to get in and out of.. open door remove item shut door
except when the teenybopper forgets to shut the door after stealing some icecream. then ya get ice build up..
Frigidaire. Whirlpool. they are good brand names.. i'd totally stay with the UR!!!

I have had both styles and I love my upright. We got it from Craigslist. It was only 3 years old, it is huge and we paid only $100. It is Kenmore and it runs like a dream. I would never go back to a chest freezer

Thank you for your input, everyone .
Well, frugality won over luxury . I spent two afternoons shopping around and doing research online and finally chose a 20 cubic feet chest freezer. It's energy rated and costs under 50$ a year to operate vs twice with the same sized upright. Another thing that pushed me towards the chest freezer are all the adjustable compartments (never saw this on old freezers) and removable baskets making it easier to keep organized.
And for those hard to reach items at the bottom....seeing I'm a smidgen over 5', dh and my sons are just going to have to fish those out for me.
