I am curious as to how many of you guys are willing to use French coupons outside of Quebec. Are most able to do it without a problem? Would like to know for trading purposes. I know that some people specify "no French coupons", but many people have not marked anything.

I have some June 11th French Smart Sources if anyone would like...

I have been denied the use of french coupons at Walmart a few times.

Once I made a big fuss (since the coupons came from right there in the store and I translated ,via my phone not from knowledge of the language, the text from the coupons. If they don't accept them, maybe the language issue should be included in the policy?

I've used them and never had an issue, though I live in NB where if you aren't bilingual, there's someone within arms reach that is. I would think living in a bilingual country, you should be able to use coupons in either official language.

I agree...I'm also in NB where it's a given that you'll hear both French and English on any shopping trip, but isn't Canada officially bilingual? Don't they really HAVE to accept coupons printed in either of our official languages?? I can't imagine how a store could get away with NOT taking them if they were challenged on it!

I emailed Walmart, Canadian Tire & Loblaws yesterday to ask if they accept French coupons at their Ontario locations. I have quite a few French ones and I want to avoid any hassles if possible. I will post their responses when they get around to replying.

Not all area of Canada are that "blessed" in bilingualism.

I miss using french (outside of french class).

Canada is officially a bilingual country, but sadly, you can't always service in French. I'm also lucky to be living in NB, the only official bilingual province in Canada

yep this is a problem... I love the bilingual coupon

The thing is, that often people could have problem with cashier because the use of coupons... So I understand people that don't want to have an issue with a french coupon + the fact they use coupons!

Some SCer in the country (but outside QC) have no problem to use french coupon, but they are few. Best thing to do is the wrote on your trading list if your coupon is 1) french only, 2) english only, 3) bilingual (french/english) or 4) sometime in BC bilingual (english/mandarin!!!)

Here I have no problem using any kind of them

Most of the French only coupons have on the back, "Valide au Canada" or "Exchangeble au Canada seulement" meaning Valid in Canada or Exchangable in Canada only. Which means they are good throughout Canada. there should be no problems using french coupons throughout Canada and if there is, you should complain to the stores. It is up to the cashiers or managers to be able to read what is written on the coupons. English only coupons are totally accepted in Quebec, so whats the problem with the rest of the country?????????????????????????????

Ive exchanged many french coupons with people throughout Canada, especially in BC and they have never had any problems. As long as it doesnt say, Valide au Quebec seulement (Valid in Quebec only), then the coupon is good!

You are right... but the reality of trading on that forum is not that.

alot of people have difficulties to start using coupon first, so they will not use a coupon giving them more hard time at the till. This is not everybody that want to argue all the time for the dime on a coupon

People love saving, but they also love saving in a quiet way. This is reasonnable too.

I also trade alot of french coupons with people outside QC, but the reality is that if people have choice to trade and use an english coupon instead of the french one, they will do it to avoid issue with a cashier.

I only use the french coupons if I have an english one to match for translation. I then use the french one and save the english for another time.
