So I had a weird conversation with two clerks today at the Uptown Walmart.

I was using the $0.50 Nestea coupon on the single packs and one of the clerks says to the other make sure you read it properly because it's usually one per whole order.

I interrupted and held up one package and say"this is a purchase!" and sweeping my hand over my order and "this is a transaction!"

Now the clerks were not rude or anything even helpful in that they honestly believe what they said next but really....

"as much as it makes sense what you are saying that is not how Walmart is reading the coupons!"

I then ask if this is a Walmart Policy and both said no. This was how the manufacturer intended the coupon to be used and Walmart has been instructed to start following that policy.

I asked who ever buys just one product with one coupon for an order at the store the likes of Walmart or any grocery store for that matter. Both clerks again said something to the effect of we agree and think its stupid but this is what the manufacturer is requiring.

I am wondering if a good side business would be to offer coupon training seminars to company employees? Do some role playing perhaps or

i was talking with the manager at walmart on sunday (Don i think his name was) and a few things that came up in that convo was they ARE in the process of training each cashier but it takes time (there are 120 cashiers at walmart uptown) not too sure how far into the process they are BUT they are currently in the process of training each cashier on couponing.. they have also finally landed a head CSM (customer service manager) after going without one for quite awhile (getting one then they transfer, or not lasting in the job) he also mentioned they have been hit pretty hard with couponing over the last few months (while there has been no head CSM) with couponers (i mostly think it is due to "extreme couponing")

pretty much things are getting better but it's taking time.. and they are trying to do some one on one with each cashier

I've actually have had reasonably good experience with couponing at Uptown. Although I can definitely see the difference in comfort with some cashiers with coupons and actually even the equipment. There is one cashier I avoid...she's super nice but very cautious about coupons. Last time I went to her till, luckily the store was super quiet, because she said she had to put the purchases with coupons through as separate transactions. I didn't question her as I knew from a previous conversation that she really needed the job and when I said sure she thanked me because the last person yelled and was generally nasty. For me i hope there is some more training with price matches. Most of the time it's really slow and there was one time the cashier kept reading the paper over, wanted to tear out the item adv to go with her paperwork and then I got home and realized I had been charged one item extra.

Really happy to hear about the additional training and new CSM ... Will hopefully give the cashiers the skills they need and have more consistency with the policy.

I am sticking to my Walmart in Langford if I can, the one at uptown right now is getting bad. I had the same thing with the cashier wanting to ring it in all separate but it would have messed up my overage so I had to insist on a manager. I didn't yell though that wasn't me LOL I was a bit forceful in asking for a manager as she kept saying that is what the coupon says. She called one and the manger put it through. So I try not to go there any more.

I agree Langford Walmart all the way. Best cashier there is the lady mid to late 40's with the long red hair. I always go to her.

That's so funny that you say that. I went through her till the other day and I had a handful of coupons. I said "hold on, I have a bunch of these" and she was really excited for me and said "good for you!" haha it made me feel good. I thought to myself later that i'll always try to find the nice lady with the red hair .

I live 5 minutes away from the Uptown Wal-Mart but love the Langford one!

That's funny I was at Uptown WalMart yesterday and had 2 of those B2S$2 Old Dutch Chips Coupons and the cashier would not put both through in one transaction, so I said do two then(I had a small order), she was really fussy about everything I think I had three coupons in total!
There is another cashier their(older woman) who was miserable to say the least, she actually pulled the ad out that I was Pricematching and even wrote on it, then complained that I had more than 12 items, so I told her the fact the I price-matched means you have extra items on the receipt(showed 20 items) - but she was adamant that it did not add those in - it did I checked afterwards, I tell you you'd swear you were asking them to pay for your groceries oh and then she proceeds to tell me I can't PM & use a coupon!!! I think not lady! - lately it has been difficult there for me, I must be getting all the wrong cashiers!!!

Haha we'll have to tell her she talked about by a bunch of strangers on a coupon website as one of the best cashiers at Walmart. I asked her if she coupons and she told me she did I bit but can't remember what she used. I was going to give her some coupons. I will have to remember to ask her again. She is not fast paced but is super nice and never gives me a hard time.

better yet next time you go in get her name and write a review on her (walmart has a review box by their customer service desk.. or give the walmart 1-800 number a call-it's on every walmart brand product) i know some good reviews can go a LONG way for a cashier (i think like many stores they earn things like pins or stickers or a bonus, plus it goes in their file as a positive mark when they come up for their regular review)

that's my favourite cashier too I don't care what is the line-up at her till like.... the wait is worth the easy and fast transaction. I avoid the young skin/tall kid with dark hair, just too much comments about how cautious he needs to be

Too funny, we'll all be stalking the same cashier lady. Yes, certainly have to fill out a good comment card about her.

I had that lady when I went there too! She is great! I was at Uptown WM tonight and I got a great cashier, younger girl who was so excited about the deals I was getting...she said she couldn't believe how much money people that come through her till save with coupons and asked me for some advice on how to get started. She even laughed and said "I get so excited about the deals people get, and it's not even me saving the money!" lol.
Another time a few weeks ago, I was being rung through by a young guy (I used the cashier profiling trick and thought he would be easygoing..WRONG.) he was so stressed about the coupons I was using and thought he would need to do separate transactions for each one (I had about 20 coupons or so for many different items...that would have taken A LONG time) my standard reply is "do what you feel you have to, but in my experience it's usually read to mean 'one per purchase' is the same as 'one per item' and one per transaction means you have to do separate transactions." I said this to him, but he was still worried so he called over another cashier...she said "ohhh just put all the coupons through...the store gets the money back anyway". I made a mental note to look for her till next time, but I can never find her when I'm in there!! I wish they ALL had that attitude!
