I zipped out to Walmart last night to get some yarn. - parked right beside the buggy return - I thought I'd better grab one there because my coupon bag is pretty heavy right now.

What do I find? A woman's purse sitting in the basket - zipper open - no one around. I looked around in all directions as it had to be the last person to leave a buggy but no one there.

So I picked it up gingerly - didn't want anyone to think I was taking it and brought it right in to Customer Service.

They looked inside to try to find an ID and what else was there??? Her PASSPORT!

I bet she was FREAKING! Anyway, I left it in the capable hands of the Customer Service People and went about my business.

I "lost" my passport once 6 hours before my flight. This would never happen today since 911 but I managed to get one re-issued which involved passport pictures, my lawyer, my best friend running interference and my mother and brother freaking because we were all going to England together.

I hope she got it back quickly!

I hope she gets it back, I would be panicking with my passport in it

I once handed in something at a store and they had to take my name & # for some unknown reason and they gave it to her without my permission so she could thank me, she mentioned how happy she was that at least her photos etc were there when she got it back even if the money was gone. I mentioned it was strange that they didn't take all her money since there was at least 2 $20s in it when I looked for ID. Someone in the store had taken it after I handed it in!

Now if I find anything I am taking it to a police station!

I left my purse in the buggie at Walmart a couple months ago. It was raining so I grabbed my child I was watching, my purchases and made a mad dash for the car. I didnt realize until i was home and I went to get my purse out of the back. I turned around and ran back to the store. I had everything in it including my passport as well. The greeter found it and return it to customer service I was so reliefed when I got it back. I asked I was allowed to give him something but they said no it was part of their job. I went over and thanked the gentlemen who found my purse and told the manager about him.

Anyways... I am much more careful....

I have had the fortune of finding many purses over the years. I say fortune because I am honest and I have personally returned every single one to the addresses I found on their driver's licence's. One of the purses belonged to a doctor and she was having a panic attack as her journal of upcoming dates, mettings etc. was inside. When I got to her house she was just pulling up in her car, I had her purse in my hands and when she saw it she started to cry. My advice take it to the owner if you can OR turn it into the police station. Hopefully everything was there when they first misplaced it.

Oh boy I'm sure she would be freaking out. I once left my wallet at our local No Frills and didn't realize it until the phone rang. It was No Frills calling me telling me they had my wallet. I was shocked as to how they had my wallet and my phone number. The lady told me that they looked through my wallet for ID and found my license and looked me up in the phone book. Luckily my number isn't unlisted or I wouldn't have known I left my wallet. I raced back to the store immediately as I had panicked at that point as my life is in my wallet.

I once found a wallet on the ground outside of a Mac's Milk store. Fortunately for the person that owns it, I am honest. I opened it up and there was about 150 cash inside. The person was young (early 20's) and had a drivers license. I looked up his number in the phone book the next morning (I found the wallet about 1 am) and called him. His brother answered and said he was at the Ministry of Transportation getting a new drivers license. I left a message for him to call me back when he got home so we could arrange to meet and return it. He was trying to figure out where he may have "left it" but was shocked to realize I had found it on the ground outside.

He hadn't even realized he dropped it. (Obviously or he would have picked it up)

Anyway, we met the next afternoon and he thanked me profusely for holding onto it rather than turning it in to the clerk at the store. He told me the money in the wallet was to pay his car insurance for the month and without it he would have had to park his car.

I only did what I would hope anyone else would do if I had lost my wallet.

    Honesty is the best policy.

Way to go, OP for being honest and turning in the purse. I'm sure the owner is grateful. I know I would be.

Excellent - good things are going to come your way!

But honestly, I can't believe how many women just leave their purses in the cart and go along a shelf down an aisle looking for something - or even to another aisle 'just to get something'... absolutely crazy! (same with leaving a baby in a cart!)

My husband and I were walking down a street window shopping when a car made a sharp right hand turn...something flew out of the passenger side window and onto the road.
We both saw a Blackberry in about 5 pieces on the street just as the lights were turning green for oncoming traffic. We watched in horror as car after car nearly hit the pieces of the phone. When the light turned red, hubby ran into the street and collected the pieces quickly. He put them back into the phone and turned it on! We decided to wait in the area and grab some lunch...the phone was locked so we couldn't call anyone in the address list. There was a number on the main lock screen so dh called it and left a message. Within an hour the person called back and was soooo happy we had it.
He came to the pub and we explained how it flew out of his car, he couldn't believe it!
He was super thankful and even paid for our lunch!

Thank goodness you found it OP. Hoping this never happens to anyone but if you suspect your passport is lost or stolen immediately inform the police. You never know what kind of hands it may end up in.

These are all great stories! It makes me feel good that all these people help others by returning things they find --- but then I always knew SCers "return the good things they find" - info on good deals etc. What a bunch! I'm proud to be a part of this site!

I once went to a club and I had my rent money and bill money in my wallet in cash (about 600$) Yeah dumb idea. My friend was watching our bags while some of us danced, and my wallet fell out and she didn't notice. When I noticed it was gone, I just about had a heard attack, I went back to the table where a bunch of guys were sitting, they had my wallet with everything inside. I bought them a round of drinks after that. I was so happy and relived.
