Now I'm no expert when it comes to grammar, but it's just becoming increasingly difficult for me to hear certain phrases that just sound..wrong.
"I'm loving this colour!"
What's wrong with, "I love this colour!"?
So I looked it up and found that "love" is a static verb...one that is never meant to be conjugated in progressive tenses like dynamic verbs such as running, walking, venting(!)...Evidently since McDonald's started using it in its advertising, the general public has picked it up. If it's good enough for a fast-food chain, then it must be okay to say it. Over. And over.
I'm just so tired of hearing it...
And while I'm venting...
"It's a lovely colouration."
What's wrong with, "It's a lovely colour."?
In this case there isn't any thing inherently wrong with it...is just seems as if the person using the word is attempting to sound smarter than he or she really is!
I think there are others, but I can't remember them at the moment...
Do some words or phrases that grown-ups or kids use bother anyone else here?
I'm not talking about foul language...just bad language.

colourization they are putting the highlight on that as in what color scheme they went with to design the room.
They want to get the word out that their mcdonalds no longer respresents the fast food label they were using before but now a high class verison of fast food. I heard during one of their renos here that their idea to look like starbucks was insane and that they could never sizably compete since its a completely different enterprise.
I do tell you with all the new seats that went into the refurbished Mcdonalds none of them are comfortable ya think they would of designed them with more comfort just the way if they ever were in starbucks to notice its a comfort flow of things...of getting people in and out in a hurry.Live, Love, Laugh

I'd say 'i'm loving this color' if it's not a color i'd usually like, because then I wouldn't say 'I love this color' because aside from whatever it is i'm looking at, I don't like it.
Like, you're looking at nail polishes
"I'm loving this blue"
or "I love this blue" because I usually don't like blue nailpolish
Guess what color my nails arePreviously CanadianBella... I'm baaack!

Sigh...I guess I'm just a stickler for proper English and behind the times on how those phrases are used...it just seems the art of proper language is...languishing...but that's just me.
Um..blue?

I think the one that bugs me the most is when someone says samwich instead of sandwich. I heard it pronounced wrong in a commercial once and it drove me nuts! Rachel Rays' "sammies" bugs me too.

There are so many that I can not count! But being in a Franglais environment, I have become more forgiving.
However, my husband gets shuffle and shovel mixed up (he used to be deaf and they sound the same for him). She says "I will shuffle the snow" I howl each time.
Ohhhhh, the one that I CAN NOT STAND (Calgarians say it often) : "I seen her..." instead of I saw her. That one gets under my skin, I don't know why.

Lynn ~ I'm LOVING your posts. From Glee girls shakin' their money makers on a Staples commercial to grammatical pet peeves; you make me giggle!!
"I'm loving this colour!" To me the 'ing' suggests that I'm currently loving the colour, but not committing to loving it forever.
