I just got off the phone with my 19 year old daughter. She is hikng, camping and canoeing with friends in the Rockies. Her big vacation before going back to college and after working all summer.
Anyways I should tell you first that my daughteris a lifeguard, has her paramedic level first aid, is a sprint kayak athlete and coach,(she coaches athletes and teaches beginners)... so this isn't a biggy thing to her but I am so proud I could burst. Already contacted family and friends, and am still busting so now I am going to share with you too...
Anyways after a long hike with friends yesterday, my daughter still had energy to burn and so convinced one of her friends ( a non canoer) to go canoeing after dinner on Cameron Lake. A beautiful lake with a glacier at one end ( very similar to Lake louise but more remote). So they arrived and there were hardly any cars and people were leaving, but they decided to go anyways. The water was a bit choppy and there was a bit of a wind but my daughter is a very good canoer so they didn't let that stop them. As they paddled for a while and got closer to the glacier they saw two men waving frantically at them.. so they started towards them. When they got to them they found out that they were a father and his teen son. The father had fallen in and was too cold to paddle (shaking uncontrolably) and the son wasn't strong enough or experienced enough to paddle himself and his dad in his boat in the choppy, windy lake which blew them to the glacier.
So my daughter took the father and son into her canoe, wrapped the father in her jacket and her friend kayaked the fathers kayak while it was tied to my daughter's canoe (remember he wasn't much of a paddler either) and towed the son's empty kayak back to the other end of the lake! It was dark when they finally got back!
They all realized afterwards, what would have happened if no one had wanted to go with my daughter canoeing after dinner! The man would have been in serious condition if he had to spend the night there soaking wet!
Anyways turns out the man is a well known investment advisor (has written books) and has offered my daughter and her friend his chalet in the town anytime they want to use it!!!
Ummm, yes I am very proud! And I am still bursting...This thread is currently associated with: Coach, WIND MobileLast edited by hollyhill; Wed, Aug 31st, 2011 at 01:33 AM.

Right place, right time. There's a reason for everything, including why your daughter had the itch to keep going. Congrats Mom! You've raised a fantastic daughter!

Wtg. She must feel soo amazing n proud to. She will remember this for the rest of her life. I was 19 when I saved a boy around 5 in a outdoor motel pool and I can still see the boys face years later.
U did a very good job. I hope to teach my 5 kids such good values. To look out for others. WTG.Just launched my new website, come take a look (headbands for all ages, and more to come)
