Well I'm travellin' today but should be home soon. Hopefully there'll be some unsalted soda crackers left but if not I'll use my $5 coupon from the Entertainment book the next day.
Forgot, I'll also be loading up on the new whole wheat Ristaurante taco chips. Lower in salt and fat than the others.
How is everyone doing so far?
PS: I finally signed up for a "Scene" card. Have been buying the Cara Restaurant gift cards which includes Milestone's. Mile stone's is now awarding 50 iCoke points on every $10 spent. So:
a. I'm getting Cara cards with AMs
b. As I'm buying the cards with "personal" AMs I can write the cost of the meals off even though the meals while having an actual cost are no cost to me.
c. Now you can collect bonus iCoke points with the above.
Does this count as double or triple or quadruple dipping?
Does anyone at SC pay for anything?

Did good shopping today.
6 base AM's
20 AM's Old Elpaso products bonus- Had coupons for them all
40 AM's Yoplait event bonus- Had coupons for them all as well
40 AM's Purex TP - no coupons here But with 3 kids you need the TP. LOL
Total 106 AM's Not bad on 15% off day too.
Was going to do the Old Dutch Restaurante tacos as well but my Safeway doesn't carry the kind I eat I eat the yellow corn ones. I think my Safeway has every kind but that one. Also did 2 transactions and bought $20 x 2 worth of Pepsi to send in for the MIR and get $20 x 2 worth of free product coupons back. Too bad there were no AM's for that.http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/PinkSapphire. Click to get FREE Giftcards just for searching the web. It is so easy.

Ado,
My cashier told me she rang up over 800 AMs for someone earlier this week.
I gather you have a twin in Victoria.
Just did:
2 HE haircare
5 Yougurt
5 Crackers
5 Old Dutch
$38 after coupons and my bonus $10 GC for 187 AMs = $26.18
BTW: I priced the new cruises from Royal Caribbean. Works out to just under $0.14/AM.

Just did a comparison at CruiseCompete to see how the new offers at AirMiles do.
Just looked at the Royal Caribbean June 3 sailing to Alaska.
Through AirMiles the inside cabin is $806US or 5,800 AMs = 13.9 cents/AM
This price does not include taxes or port charges.
The lowest cruisecompete quote was:
<table border="0"><tbody><tr><td>
</td></tr><tr><td valign="top" align="right">Inside:</td><td valign="top" align="left">$1,714.06 (Category L; $857.03 average cost per passenger) Lowest Quote!</td></tr><tr><td>
</td></tr><tr><td valign="top" align="right">
</td><td valign="top" align="left">
</td></tr></tbody></table>
So you're really probably only going to get about $0.12/AM by the time everything is counted.
Now I'll have to check with Marlin to see what sort of price I can get through them.

Thank you for posting the AM breakdown. I am a single mother, grown children, and I could never afford to shop at Safeways as the cost of the same groceries and products I shopped for was so much higher.
And now they want you to purchase 2 of each items, am single I don't
need two of the same item at one time. There is no motivation for me
to shop at Safeways the prices are still not competitive.
I can go into my local Safeways and there is maybe a dozen shoppers
in there at any one time, what does that tell one. If they continue to lower prices I may consider doing some of my shopping there.

Well, their prices are not as high as they used to be but you still have to watch yourself.
The breakdown I do is intended to give you a cross-reference so you can tell if the AirMiles give you an advantage compared to other stores.
Basically, I only buy if:
1. There is a price advantage after AirMiles
2. The price is discounted thanks to a promotion
3. I have coupons
4. It is an item I actually use
5. I can buy in bulk that will last in storage
The 900g soda crackers is a good example this week
$3.99 with 15 AMs each
I doubt very much you could find them anywhere else for under $3.50
The 15 AMs is worth $2.10 on average but even at the worst, say $0.1143/AM on Shell gas that's a real cash value of $1.74.
If you could get the crackers for $3.50 that's $0.49 cheaper but you have a real cash value of $1.74 for a real in your pocket savings of $1.74 - $0.49 = $1.25/box
As you have to buy 5 to get the bonus you've got 5 x $1.25 = $6.25 of free gas!!!!
The crackers can be stored and I'll eat them so this one is a no-brainer for me.
On the Cruise item:
Marlin came in at $957 Canadian all taxes in for the June 3 Royal Caribbean cruise.
The cheapest quote through CruiseCompete was $857US
A $100 difference. (Considering our dollars at or near par)
This means compared to the lowest bid elsewhere the $400 in price you can knock off with AirMiles through Marlin is really only worth $300 or about $0.09/AM on this one particular cruise.
Better to buy it direct if you want to use AMs to purchase the cruise.
I'll check to see if Marlin will price match.

Here's my Marlin agent's response:
That depends on what they are charging for the tax (on my quote it was $150.00 of the quote). So that makes our price the same as Air Miles. Also our quote is in Canadian dollars that saves about 5% on credit card charges on foreign currency. If price is your only consideration then online may be the cheapest. I presume you have sent the same question to Air Miles and to the online sources you have mentioned. I hope that is of some assistance in making your decision.
The 5% mentioned by the agent is for converting 2 ways $C ==> $US and back to ==>$C.
When buying a cruise using $US you'd likely only need to convert once so 2.5%-3% on a credit card.

Heads Up for tomorrow:
Over the past year shampoo, etc prices have risen dramatically. I assume it's the price of oil.
Pantene products have been on sale for $4.99 where the previous few years it was $3.99.
Tomorrow starts the new week in the booklet and there's a coupon for B3G30 @ $3.99
If the P&G Brandsaver coupons are still good (I haven't looked) this will be an excellent offer.

Well, with last week's major airmiles event, I clipped almost every coupon and went on Wednesday to stock up. I couldn't go on 10% Tues., unfortunately, because of scheduling. Anyway, I went to the cashier with my full cart. She rang everything through and then I gave her my fist full of airmiles coupons. She started putting in the PLUs and after about six of them the machine froze. The register wouldn't let her ring anything else in, and wouldn't log out. It kept rebooting to go through everything but she couldn't do anything. A manager was called and she said that she'd never seen anything like this before. We eventually had to move to customer service and she had to write down the 16 coupons I had left, plus I had a 5X coupon from the SUTP book. At the end of everything I spent about $417, and should get 1010 airmiles. I'm keeping an eye on my account to make sure. I have a sheet of paper with everything she wrote down and a copy of my receipt just to make sure.
If you think that's a large order, I also shaved off $92 with other coupons and the club card on that order. It's getting to be routine at home when the DH asks why we bought something, and the reply is "Airmiles."Last edited by fermat; Sat, Feb 5th, 2011 at 02:43 PM.
