I noticed tonight that the flight redemption has changed a bit. Used to be that flight options were presented at the set number of airmiles from zone a to zone b. Tonight, I'm being presented a much wider number of flight options with a variety of airmiles costs (anywhere from 3000 to 6000 AM for the flight I searched and that is for a flight that should cost me 1706)! Makes me a little nervous because I thought I would have a little longer to "dump" my airmiles on a last flight before they went out of business...

Hmm.. this is new:
'This quote is subject to the availability of AIR MILES seat on our Partner airlines. For added flexibility, you may also have the choice to book more flights for additional reward miles.'
It seems they're keeping the standard fixed rate rewards and adding the option to get a seat even if there's no reward availability. Will be interesting to see if there's less reward availability with this option.
Ron.

Today is a very sad day. For me it is the beginning of the end of Air Miles with the introduction of dynamic pricing. In the past, I could book any flight available in Air Miles for a fixed price, for example 4100AM in low season to Puerto Vallerta, Mexico. Now the flights "start at" 4100AM (an Air Transat flight with $411 taxes per person) and the others, based on demand, are higher. These were my other option (without the Gold discount)
8688 AM per person (Air Canada via YVR)
9089 AM per person (Air Canada/United via DEN)
9717 AM per person (Air Canada via YYZ)
I am sure this is putting an AM valuation in the $0.10 range (or below) based ticket prices on the airline sites. I can get the Denver route for $660 Cdn, taxes in. Why would I pay $231 per person in taxes AND 9089 AM???? That's about $0.047 per AM!!!!
The rep on the phone touted it as giving customers better choices.....
Local flights within Canada don't look that bad... Edmonton, Calgary, Churchill, Toronto seem unaffected. Maybe it's just places more than one zone away...Last edited by flyforfree; Mon, May 12th, 2014 at 07:26 PM.

Just gave it a try on a theoretical pilgrimage to LAS (where else?) in July--my cost was standard 4,750 AM (or whatever the standard "high rate" was), plus 208$ in taxes= 683$ dollars if you use the standard OB™ valuation of 10 cents. Same pilgrimage booked on WJ's site came up at 750$, so even with the standard redemption prices, AM rewards aint what they used to be!!
On the bright side, watching my 39" HD TV courtesy of the e auction--that is one item that HAS delivered!!
Still waiting on 3 more group auction "wins", but I have timeI use DropBox to store my Las Vegas pictures, books, etc., online. There are so many cards coming out now with no restrictions on bookings AirMiles is probably trying to keep people from leaving. They might be guaranteeing flights but you have to pay way more in AirMiles and still get dinged for the taxes/loyalty fees. Then again AirMiles history has shown a total disregard for their members and as usual assume we're all stupid.
I wonder if all the people who supported Airmiles on their Facebook page when Emax and I pointed out what was happening to them feel differently now. There are none so blind as will not see!
