    bell- need a landline
-write down date, time, person calling, and get their CSR number, and ask for an email confirmation

Bell does PM without contract, but your prices are only good for 12 months- FYI

No you don't need an active phone line i.e dial tone ..but you do need a naked DSL aka DRY LOOP for which there is an extra charge of usually $ 7 - $ 8 bucks per month . I don't think you need any extra payment for their cable internet as opposed to phone ( DSL ) internet .

Bell has some really ghetto 25 GB / month bandwidth caps for some of their basic plans for almost 50 bucks a month . 25 GB is not enough for mist people as just watching 1 hr of youtube uses 1 GB . You don't even have to download anything to use bandwidth ..just surfing & streaming videos uses up lot .

Teksavvy has 300 GB cap & also unlimited options .

I am with Teksavvy and love them. They are so fast.

I love the fact that they are involved in fighting bell and rogers and helped to prevent the bandwidth caps that Bell and Rogers tried to force down everyone's throats on the sly. Heck I would pay more to the little guy if it means we somehow have a way to keep those 2 from having a complete monopoly and making us all pay high prices for bad service.

My teens and I all use the internet heavily and we have not used up the 300 gigs.

Really great info about teksavvy. Thank you. I am so frustrated with Bell sneakily raising landline prices. Rogers is annoying, but I asked to cancel a channel and got another year of 20% discount. I don't ever reach my cap - I spend ages on the internet, but it's the streaming video that gets you.

Rogers is good for giving deals when you try to cancel, but its nice to free of the Rogers monopoly, feel like I'm supporting a good cause as well as saving money. I canceled my cable and now download all my shows so I need the high cap, don't regret that decision at all!

Unless you plan on being a long term subscriber, Teksavvy will eat you up front with their ridiculous activation fee, modem, installation, etc...

We switched from Bell/Cogeco to Teksavvy for internet and landline phone a couple years ago. Can't recommend Teksavvy enough! Before I signed up i did all the math, and for us, in the long run, Teksavvy is much cheaper. I now pay about half of what I used to for phone/internet.

The bandwith cap was what was going to kill us money-wise, so as soon as they brought that in, we switched. We have 300Gb and have never gone over, and Dh and I are heavy users.

Oh, and Teksavvy customer service is great. When we have to call -which is seldom- we talk to a real person.. in Canada!
