Should I Sell...

Im not sure if I posted this in the right section but I pray I did, anyways I am an avid book junkie (hundreds upon hundreds) and I just got to thinking that after I read them I really just pack them up in a box and store them away with no intention of ever reading them again. I just realized that I can sell my books with amazon.com I was just wondering if you guys think it would be worth it?

I mean I can charge shipping so I do not have to pay that and I will get money for my books as well. They are all in incredible shape, I never tear or turn pages of them.

Do you think this is a good idea? Or no?

Please give me your honest feedback!

Also if anyone has any experience with this do they sell fast or not?

I suggest grabbing a bunch and searching them yourself. See what people have them listed at.

I don't know if people can combine books to reduce shipping cost, otherwise each book seems to have a $6.49 shipping price tag. Which that plus the cost of the book practically makes it the same as buying a new book or even more expensive than a new one.

I've never bought the used books for that reason. Some books have like 30 listings for new/used books which could suggest you'll be stuck with them for a while longer.

The $6.49 is for amazon.ca.

Do you perhaps have a used bookstore in your area, where they buy your old books and you can either use the credit to purchase more books or cash out?

honestly with how much effort it would be to post every single book for the amount of return you would get (they MIGHT sell, might not. as a buyer personally i'd rather buy new directly from amazon and save the shipping $$) i'd look into a place that buys used books, unless you have anything rare or obscure.. i find books are like cars the moment you take them off the lot the resale value drops dramatically

I agree with selling them to a used bookstore.

You won't get much of a return, but it'll be well worth it considering you won't have the hassle of listing everything. And amazon probably gets a portion of your sale, anyway.

If you have friends that are readers, they might be interested in taking a look.

I donated a whole bunch of gently used books to the library and the hospital ( they sell them in the giftshop).

put em in a box and put it on craigslist as a mixed box of books for XX dollars. I love buying these, you never know what you will get!

I've have no experience with books on amazon, either buying or selling, so can't help you there - also don't know anyone who has.

We are in a small city, and have several good used bookstores. The one we frequent most has a decent trade-in policy - you get pretty good value for the most popular/recent books - pretty much paperbacks only. They also take magazines.
We find we build up a nice credit, then can take home a big swak of books ourselves.

For books they don't take, or if I don't want to bother going - I give away on freecycle. If you aren't a member, you can use kijiji.

I'm a voracious reader - always have been. Time for me to get back to getting books from the library again, instead of buying them (I never buy the popular ones, just oldies from bookcloseouts, for example.)

And the library has Kindle books too, to download with your library card.

I have picked up many of my used books at the Book Market (but mostly in Bells Corners). They have 1 in Ottawa, another in Orleans as well.

I really hate the Kindle books, I think they are a rip off of actual books. I would rather turn the pages and get frustrated about losing my spot a million times before I would get an E Reader. It is such a rip off, call me old fashioned but that is one thing I will not let technology take over.

I would try selling them to a used bookstore, it would be less effort than trying to sell them through amazon individually (unless you have anything rare or out of print).

If you have a lot of teen books, you can do what I do: donate them to school libraries. I'm a teacher and a book reviewer so I end up with quite a lot of young adult books that I read but don't always end up keeping. Once I have enough to fill a reusable bag, I drop them off at the library at the local high school. The librarians are always really appreciative (so long as the books are appropriate) since their book-buying budget is next to nothing. I ended up doing this since the public library where I live doesn't accept donations of physical books anymore (only monetary donations now) since it costs so much to add a physical book to their system. Plus a lot of kids don't have access to the public libraries so donating to a school library is more accessible for them.
