So, I took a $1 ride on one of these new Express runs to Lethbridge and back a few days ago, and have to say (tentatively) this could be at least one positive step forward for Greyhound -- the first in many years for them. Seems to me they should have these coaches on EVERY run and route, because they certainly are a bit more humane than most of their insanely cramped fleet, and having 120AC outlets and wifi -- pretty much necessities in this day and age -- sure makes the trip more bearable. You actually DO get enough room to sit in comfort with a decently reclined seat (gee, what a concept.)

As far as providing a premium service, though, they've missed the boat with their positioning of this new offering, IMO. They should have gone a notch up to compete head-to-head with Red Arrow Express, with comparable coaches (2+1 seating config, leather, tray tables, snacks, etc.) and similar pricing. Instead, they chose to go with a wishy-washy version of "upgraded" that merely competes with Red Arrow's own discount brand, my eBus (which itself was apparently implemented to compete with Greyhound!) So FirstBus have blown their chance to attract a slightly more upscale clientele willing to pay a bit more for a nicer ride, instead making it attractive for the undesirable, knuckle-dragging boozers and thugs to take over to Express coaches, since there's virtually no price differential to dissuade them. There were several alcoholic losers drinking at the back of the bus on the return from Lethbridge, and of course they became progressively louder and more obnoxious as the miles went by, with no intervention from our timid-looking driver.

So really, it's pretty much just the same old Greyhound.

You're right it's the same Greyhound. The only good thing is the $1 fare.
