Help with buying computer speaker

I am willing to buy quality computer speaker as a christmas gift for my boyfriend.
He's a musician and he see the difference of quality in sound, which I just don't get except if it's really really bad.
I was thinking about buying Logitech, since it's a quality brand, but there are so many models and so many price ranges.
I am willing to spend a maximum of around 150$, ideally around 100$ so I can get him some of the other stuff I'm thinking about...

Anyone spotted some deals? I'd like to buy them in shop but I'll buy them on the internet if there is a really great deal...
What do I need to look for?
I'm in Montreal if you spotted something in shops.
