depends how big the hole is in the sock.. if it's manageable, then i'll darn them, otherwise in the trash they go.. as for purses, well some people here know that i'm somewhat of a handbag nut, so i do not wait til one gets ruined before i buy another one.. if i find one that i have to have, welllllll... i have to have it!

I find that socks aren't made like before...they are really thin and are a blend of cotton and synthetics. I try to buy the ones with the most cotton and just toss them when holes appear.
I am weird. I don't carry a purse, never have. My daughter on the other hand, loves purses. I had to hold my nose when purchasing her Dooney & Burke purse when we were in LA last month; $375 bucks is too steep for me, but she was paying!
Some people buy inexpensive purses and use them as an accessory. Others will buy one or two well-made but classic ones that they can use forever.

never darned a sock. i throw away the kids socks and hubbies once i see a hole as usually there ain't much left to the sock by then.. as for purses I always buy leather and never pay more than $1-2 each. and try to keep a stock of them so once a strap breaks.. its donated.

If they are wooly type socks I'll darn them (or my boy's hockey socks), but thinner socks are too much of a pain to try to darn. If the socks just have a hole in the toe and have a neat design on them I like to save them to make sock monkeys or sock monsters.
I buy cheap purses and rotate through them regularly, and sell them or pass them on when I tire of them.
I will patch the knees of my kids and husbands jeans though.http://superpoints.com/refer/hockeymomma

I buy socks from the flea market in packages of 8 or 10 for $10 each package. If the quality is good, it usually last me a couple years then or slightly more. I wait until I have a big hole in it then I garbage it.

I don't darn my socks. It would probably be a huge disaster if I attempted it, anyway.
I own quite a few purses, so no I definitely don't wait til they break before I buy a new one.

I just toss socks when they get holey, usually mass produced socks are very cheap to purchase. I do have hand-knitted socks from my MIL that have been going on strong for 15+ years. These I will darn if they ever get holey.
As for purses, I'd probably replace when they start to fall apart. I usually have several so no particular ones wear out that quickly. I do find the leather ones hold up a lot better.

my socks rarely get holes in them but are thrown out when they start pilling badly.
i usually go through one bag a year. i always have a favourite that i like to use all the time so it does get worn out by the end of a year.

The marled-yarn/outdoorsy thick socks are worth darning as sometimes they are hard to find in the same colours or styles every year.
The dress socks tend to be pretty worthless to mend unless they are high quality to begin with.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

I only darn those nice thick socks for winter. As for purses, I have one I love it is basically a wallet with a shoulder strap and enough spots for all my points cards ect. I had one for 4 years before the strap took a holiday and broke. Luckily I found another one just like it, transferred over all my items and away I went again.
