I am really surprised, and pretty disappointed, that there are no stores outside of southwestern Ontario. Why not spread the stores out so that they can attract customers from multiple regions?

Okay, I tried to "multi quote this" but it didn't work!? what is with that?
Anyways! I'll just make a few points in reference to some of the excitement!
- North Bay will get one eventually! I am hopping it is before I am done school!!
- Since there will be one in Whitby, I'll just travel to Oshawa more frequently to visit my parents. (pluses on both side here)
- Oshawa had better have a Target store by the time I am done school so I don't have to travel to Whitby all the time.
Some one also asked what they would do with all the merchandise from the Ajax and Whitby Zellers locations my guess is that it will be moved to the Oshawa Zellers (Pickering as well...I can't remember if there is one)
Another person asked why the stores (the first few) are all in southwestern Ontario rather than all over the map. Target, is creating a sample market, where they are hitting in and around the larger more populated areas so that they can gauge how well the stores are going to do. If the stores do well in these areas then Target will have grounds to further expand their franchise.
:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:
Well no Target for Brantford yet... at least one is going to be in Burlington which is at least a decent drive down there. There is no way that I am going near Toronto with a ten foot pole! *LOL*
will they be selling produce like walmart? if so and they do pricematch then it would worth it but otherwise i don't think it 'll be any cheaper than walmart!
Great news. 2 targets near me!! I just hope they allow what they do in the states...Coupon doubling. 1 target coupon + 1 manufacturers.
none in Cape Breton
none in Simcoe either although I did overhear employees talking that their jobs were good till July of 2012
I overheard a convo between a Zellars worker and her friend yesterday, Zellars worker was saying she got her dismissal papers that day, all employees were being let go as of September(when the Zellars closes). Apparently Target is bringing in it's own people.
good news!
it means that target wants things done a certain way. their way , not the zellers way.
if anyone at target has been following the zellers facebook page, they can see how messed up the culture at zellers is, from the top right down to the customer 'service' ppl.
Target is not necessarily bringing its own people .
But most of the Zellers employees will be let go & they will have to re-apply to get the same job at Target , if they want . So you might see the same people before in most cases but on a lower pay .
So if you have been a Zellers cashier for 10 years or say 20 years .. you will be let go & you will have to re-apply as a teenager/high school student or something like that to get/do the same job you were doing before ...only difference is you will be paid much lower.
You will lose all your seniority & raises & start off again from scratch & at minimum wage all over again .
Its a raw deal for Zellers senior employees for sure ..but in today's economy some might have no choice & might still go for the pay cut to do the same job at Target as they were doing with Zellers but for lower wages.
Sobey's has an agreement with Target, to supply food and produce for Target stores.
