i could understand The Bay, or Home Outfitters giving them consideration based on being an HBC employee.

with Target, i think target was more than helpful offering interviews but they had absolutely no obligation to offer them any special treatment.

Target just said "yes please, we would like to open up stores in all the empty holes left by zellers" they did not purchase any part of the zellers company.

it sucks having to find a new job because your copany went down the toilet, but demanding handouts isn't really the way to go.

The Targets in the States really aren't that cheap. From my experience in the States, Target is a different store than Walmart they really don't view themselves as a direct competitor to Walmart , they view themselves as a little more upscale. Slightly higher prices in exchange for a more pleasent shopping environment and they offer more brand name clothes. Groceries are a afterthought at Target, a lot of them in the States don't even carry groceries. I think their Grocery prices will end up being significantly higher than the Loblaw chains outside of their sales.

I for one look for value and not ambiance when shopping, I always go for the best prices on food,staples and households items and have no loyalty. I don't think I'll end up shopping much at Target when my local store opens. Superstore will automatically match all their sale prices anyways.

They are smart to open these stored near the Easter long weekend -- more traffic in the stores.:-)

Glad my Target is opening tomorrow but I will not be going till next week. I hate crowds. I will however, be taking my MIL to her's in Milton tomorrow instead.

My local store is opening tomorrow. Will do a drive by to determine if I will even attempt it. If the parking lots is packed I'll keep driving. It'll still be there in a few weeks.
