Strategies to Maximize the Value of Your FPCs

Fellow SCers have taught me alot about not only how to obtain FPCs (Free Product Coupons) but also how to maximize their value too - especially when matched with loyalty programs like Air Miles, SDM/Pharmaprix Optimum, etc. and also sales like B1G1.

Here are the lessons I've learned - and wanted to share. Please post more in the thread too!! Hope this is somewhat helpful.

    In-Store B1G1 Free Sales/Promotions

Many stores often have promotions where certain products are buy 1 get 1 free. If you have an FPC for the product, then you get 2 for free. For example, IGA (QC) had Maxx Litter on sale as B1G1. I used my FPC for Maxx LItter and got 2 for Free!! (Thanks bluntbabe!)

    SDM/Pharmaprix Optimum Program

    1. At SDM they enter FPCs (usual) as code 2002 which in most instances means you pay no tax on even non-food FPCs - whereas at most other places you end up paying the tax.,

    2. Use the FPCs when SDM is having a BPs (Bonus Points) Promo on the Product - for example, SDM had Buy 2 Nestea 12 Packs Get 1000 BPs - use 2 x FPCs and you get the 1000 BPs.

    3. Take your chances and hope the cashier enters them as code 2001 during a 20x the Points Event. If they do, then you get the points on the FPC, this happens infrequently. Although, I believe in one province - Nova Scotia I think - you do get 20x the points on all FPCs.

Zellers, SPC Card, and HBC Rewards

Use your Tax Free FPCs (mostly food) with your SPC card which gives you 10% off your total. Then that extra money saved goes toward money off your other purchases - for example, you buy 3 x $3 Stouffers Frozen Meals and use 3 x FPCs on them. They could have cost $9 so 10% off is $.90 cents toward the rest of your purchased items. PLUS use your HBC Rewards Card too!

    Loblaws Chain/RCSS Tax Free Days

Periodically, Loblaws Chain Stores have No Tax Days where you don't pay tax. It is a great time to use your FPCs.

Air Miles Program & Your Participating Grocers & Drugstores

Often there are great Air Miles Promos on Specific Products. You can use your FPCs on these products and still earn the Air Miles.

Additionally, stores also have promotions where you spend a certain amount on groceries, and you get a set amount of points, for example, spend $50+ and receive 20 Air Miles. In most cases, when you use your FPCs, they bring down your total but still count toward the amount needed to get the Air Miles. So in the example above, you could pay $35 out of pocket after using $15 in FPCs and get the 20 Air Miles. (Thanks dengpao!)

Here are participating stores - some have better promos than others:

    Metro (ON)
    Rexall Pharma Plus (ON)
Safeway (AB, BC, MB, NW, SK)
    Foodland (NF, NS, NB)
    Sobeys (NB, NF, NS, PE)
    IGA (QC)
    Jean Coutu (NB, ON, QC)
    Pharmasave (NS, PE, NB)

Great thread! Thanks for putting them all together.

The other one I just learned recently is using your fpcs at rexall pharma plus bonus air miles events (eg. 50 air miles wub $30+ the past weekend, 100 air miles wub $50 the coming weekend), fpc will be counted towards the total and let you get the bonus airmiles. Sometimes you may not even get any regular airmiles because the oop is less than $10, but you still get the bonus one.

    See the brag here.

Just a side question but is the FPC for the kitty litter still out there? I've looked but haven't found it.

Yes, I believe it is. Scers have obtained the FPCs via Purina's MyKitten website - you sign up and they send you a packet that contains the FPC for the Litter. I've gotten mine via trade on SC.

I cannot believe I didn't think to use my FPC's during a BOGO event till you pointed it out. *smacks self on forehead*

I will DEFINITELY remember that tip next time!
