RANCIDITY DETECTED IN PRESIDENT'S CHOICE ORGANICS INFANT CEREAL

OTTAWA, January 18, 2012 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaw Companies Limited are warning the public not to consume President's Choice Organics infant cereals described below because these products may have an unpleasant rancid odour, or taste. Loblaw Companies Limited is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace.

All lot codes of the following President's Choice Organics infant cereal are affected by this alert:

Mixed Grains with Apple (add water) 8+baby 227 g 060383 005511 All codes
Oat cereal (add breast milk or infant formula) 6+baby 227 g 060383 005535 All codes
Oat Cereal (add water) 6+baby 227 g 060383 005528 All codes
Rice Cereal with Banana (add water) 7+ baby 227 g 060383 005542 All codes
Rice Cereal (add breast milk or infant formula) 6+baby 227 g 060383 005566 All codes
Rice Cereal (add water) 6+ baby 227 g 060383 005559 All codes

Wheat Cereal (add water) 6+ baby 227 g 060383 005573 All codes

Wheat Cereal with Mixed Fruit (add water) 7+ baby 227 g 060383 005580 All codes

There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products.
If the cereal has an unusual odour or smells 'off', it should not be consumed. If an infant has been fed any of the products described above, discontinue feeding this cereal and monitor for symptoms. Consumption of rancid food may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you have any concerns please seek medical attention.


The importer, Loblaw Companies Limited, Toronto, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
