Yes and no. It's just my DH and I so when we are home at the same time and I prepare a meal we will eat it at the dinner table, however if I'm alone I usually sit with my TV tray at the couch.

Sounds similar to us. We cook dinner together most nights and eat in the dining room ,but when I'm on my own, which is rarely,I love to have diinner at the coffee table with a movie on.
When our kids were at home,we ate at the kitchen table on weeknights and the dining room on weekends because we always needed the larger table and more chairs.
My favorite is to eat on the sun deck...come on spring!!

We always use the table in the kitchen. I go crazy when the grandkids want to eat in the living room in front of the t.v. I usually insist that we eat together.

DH and I are on complete differant shifts, So he eats dinner at work and I eat dinner at home, but on the weekends I try to have at least one meal at the table, I never had that when I was younger so I really enjoy having dinner in the dinning room

kitchen table?? whats that!
i don't own one.. it was a catch all so i got rid of it to help prevent the clutter.. though.. it means i eat at a TV tray in the livingroom..atleast the toodle butt has her table to eat at
I could never eat on the bed, any sort of crumbs in the bed drive me batty (i swear i could rival the princess and the pea, if any dirt or even a smushed up bottom sheet it drives me crazy and i can't sleep-uncomfy/digs in, for me sleeping with the occasional crumb in the bed feels like i'm sleeping on gravel!, i know i'm weird)When life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

This thread really tugs at my heart a bit. A shiftworking family such as ours meant not having DH at the dinner meal in the evening. ( years of that) That is why we are trying very hard to put the effort into it on the weekends.
More and more as my kids became teens/young adults they would grab something to eat independently. It had to be addressed because DH and myself often found we were the only 2 at the table on Sat or Sun.
More recently I got them to help with things like prep chopping of the food, or setting the table ( things they used to love doing when they were 5!! lol) and that has helped in bringing us a bit closer at meal time.

We eat at the table together 99.9% of the time- it is one hard and fast rule that I do not break. I try not to have a lot of rules around the house because with oldest DS (a lot of you know he has some problems) it just turns everything into a battle. But eating at the table together is something that's important to me and one of the few rules I enforce.
Dinner time is one of the few times that we get some peace in the house and my children will actually take time to talk to me- and they're only 8 and 4! LOL

DH and I almost always eat supper together at the kitchen table; we don't have a dining room. I grew up with family meals at the table, so they are super important to me for a lot of the reasons already mentioned - time to unwind, connect with DH, talk about our days, etc. We will do dessert in front of the TV as we normally eat it an hour or more after the main course and we do dessert instead of an evening snack.
Personally, I also eat breakfast at the table every day, and lunch there when I'm working from home. When I'm at work, I'm bad for eating at my desk and surfing the web - although I'm good about wiping down my desk before and after.
DH eats breakfast and lunch at work. He often works late, though, so it's sometimes a bit of a challenge to wait for him for supper. I like to make the effort, though, as we don't get much time together otherwise and I feel it's important to connect daily in this way.

We haven't eaten at the kitchen table for about the past year - we're so short of space, and it currently has piles of stuff on it, leaving about half of it clear for work space.
However, we have our evening meal together every night - and though we may sit in the living room and usually have the news on the tv, we end up talking the whole time anyway - what happened during the day for each of us, and discussing things in the news.
We've always had supper together during the week, and lunch and supper on the weekends. It's VERY important!

When it is just my wife and I...we eat the island.
When we have family over...we eat at the dinner room table.
Never do we eat in front of the TV (although it is visible from the entire kitchen/dinning room - open concept).Matt

Always at the table, we're kind of strict about it I guess, but our kids (2, 6 & 8) aren't allowed to eat anywhere else. I sometimes eat lunch at the computer, but never supper.

DH and I used to eat in the livingroom all the time. Then we had kids and found DD was pitching a fit if she couldn't watch cartoons during meals. I had to bring a portable DVD player to restaurants!
We now eat at the table which is in a very tiny kitchen. DH sits with his chair jammed against the wall and I sit with my chair jammed against the fridge door. Not ideal but we are learning to eat together as a family.
Kids are happier too with the one on one attention they are getting at the table. I feel like we are getting to know our kids better as they spend all day in daycare.
We'll definately continue.
