Do you set weekly goals for yourself? I've decided today that I'm terrible at getting things done on time (procrastinate like WHOA) that I'd write out a list of things to get done each week. I feel that if I make myself more accountable by writing out my goals and seeing it there in my little notebook that I'd get them done.
My favorite goal is this: I've been planning for years to make all my old band shirts into a quilt. While most kids my age were busy going to parties or w/e hs kids did, I went to punk shows, and amassed a large amount of shirts from them. I don't want to throw them out because they're souvenirs of my high school years and into university (and when I could no longer afford to go/let alone buy shirts/have the time to go). I have the box sitting on the floor next to me, now to get those scissors!
I also set financial goals, be consumer debt free in 4 months! I don't know where I'll be come September (school or 3 month trip to Europe) so my savings goals aren't totally set in stone (just based on my current job)....This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Yes, I tend to set short term goals. I have a couple of monthly goals that I might break down into weekly goals. I also make daily goals - especially when I have a chunk of time and I want to stay on track. What I absolutely refuse to do is make New Year's resolutions. They are two long term and too all or nothing for me.

I don't agree with new years resolutions. When I started reading about nutrition and the food industry I just made the lifestyle changes to move away from a crippling diet of processed foods to a healthy all natural diet. I think because resolutions don't feel like a life style change (which is what they really should be and should be taken at any point of the year as a person sees fit for them).
My next weekly goal is to start cleaning my cats teeth, I really shouldn't put it off since oral health is important to kitteh's too...

Yeah, I agree. I find that when you think "From January 1st on, I'm going to change for good," it just sets you up for failure. Smaller lifestyle changes made throughout the year are much more effective. Setting smaller, short term goals also helps you to go back and keep working on them the next day/week instead of giving up after a failure.

Not to make light of your thread lekate, but my goal each day was to change outa my pj's before DD got home from school each day. Well maybe if I had written it down it might have happened more often. lol
On a more serious note, I agree so much with writing things down. It works for diet journals, keeps you aware just how much food goes in the ole pie hole.
I do love that idea of making something out of those old shirts though, I mean what a great memory to have as you cuddle up in a quilt made from them. Good luck!

Thanks, it will be an awesome blanket once done! Most of the shirts are black and one was white but got dyed red during the show (as per GWAR tradition...)
And as for your pj goal, I see it as unrealistic, so long as I don't leave my house I'm in my jammies. Pfft wearing outside clothes at home....

LOL, I remember my first GWAR show! It took me three or four days to get the dye off my skin (super fun going to school and work with green and purple splotches on one's face)... as for the clothes, well the clothes were never the same
That'll be one awesome blanket!
I set weekly goals with regard to my schoolwork. I find that it helps to keep me on track and it also just plain feels good to put little check marks beside the goals as they get completed. I tend to limit this to school and work, though; I don't really keep goals with respect to the rest of my life - I just make changes when I feel they need to be made, as a few of the other poster have said.

I don't really set any goals but when I do need to get something done I find writing a list is the best motavation. Now, I don't always stick to my list but sometimes get sidetracked into doing something else. I'm okay with being sidetracked as long as it feels like I've accomplished something on my list.

Oh man, my hair was faded out purple/blond at the time, it definitely just dyed my hair red. I went prepared though, I wore a white t-shirt with GWAR written on it in sharpie and a pair of pants I threw out afterwards (old work pants I didn't need anymore). #memories <3

This is a good idea! Once the weather improves enough, I am gonna put my pedometer and sneakers to work - set a goal of walking x number of steps per week. Like you I dont make resolutions at new years - just setting myself up to fail. But a weekly goal of walking a certain number of steps will be doable (once its not so icycold outside).
Thanks OP for the idea!

I've started making lists of things to do, mostly because my memory is so fleeting that if I don't write it down I forget about it for another few days.
So for tomorrow - go to Wedding/Bridal show and try to form some liasons with other wedding professionals - (I'm a Wedding Officiant.) And try not to be too pooped to go see "War Horse" tomorrow night.
Then I'm still trying to sort out my mother's estate and it's gotten very complex so I try to make some steps forward at least once a week.
Try to do something positive for others if not every day then at least a few times a week eg - I have to start my campaign collection for Heart and Stroke this next week - I'm hoping to set up the on-line e-mail campaign this weekend.
