The apricot sherbet froze nicely, and it's almost like ice-cream...quite delicious. Made my way downtown for mail, milk and water. It was truly a gruelling and exhausting experience going through that little snowfall, but I finally made it home. Isn't it nice when you come home tired and hungry, and are able to have homemade soup and sandwich fixings in the fridge, topped off with homemade dessert? Yes, it is!
Have a nice day, all!
To Do this week: :clock:
- make bread pudding
- work in studio: dusting; organize binders, practise, lesson preps :icon_study:
- laundry
- continue work on rag-rug, mending & clothing alterations for DS
- move sleeve buttons on 2 more blouses
- continue sorting and cutting up excess fabrics/clothing
- vacuum area rugs and stairs
- start tomato & basil seeds
- plant sprouted potatoes indoors in cooler
- file office paperwork
- wash floors
- listen to instrumental favourites :note2:
Have a good week, everyone!
We have some buttons to mend too. It's a waste to not use clothes bought with good money, just because there are buttons missing.
Thanks for the reminder.
It was a lazy weekend this past weekend, did some groceries and some yoga but nothing other than that except weekly cleaning chores and playing video games.
This week I plan to:
- finish up the two headbands I made last month
- alter at least one pair of jeans into shorts for DW
- cut and organize all my new coupons
- create a trade list (again...)
- catch up on the boring junk I've been avoiding at work...
Thanks to the inspiration from you lovely SC'ers I managed to get some seeds started this weekend - tomatoes, herbs, peas and impatiens. Time will tell if they grow in to something I can transplant outside but for now it was fun and my DS loves checking every morning if something has grown. I managed to save 7 egg cartons and used those to start the seeds in.
We also picked up another 4 indoor tropical plants from the nursery on Sat so it was nice to get those planted. Having plants in the house just helps me feel calm and peaceful - love sitting in my living room and seeing them all there.
I also made cornbread this weekend. We had a potluck lunch at church on Sunday so I took mini cornbread muffins. Also made an additional 2 casserole dishes of cornbread with chopped up wieners in it (tastes like corn dogs!). DH loves having this frozen so he can grab it for breakfast or a snack for his lunch.
I have some brocoli and asparagus in the fridge that aren't lookin' so healthy so I think I'll make a small pot of cheesy brocoli and asparagus soup tonight ... it'll make a nice dinner for after DS's swimming lessons tomorrow evening.
I just love reading this thread every day.
Wending my way downtown to do errands today wasn't easy.
Somebody almost backed into me again when coming out of their driveway, but I was watching out so no harm done. Then the driver started cursing me with the F word about why I wasn't on the sidewalk. So I went over to the vehicle, and had a short talk with her. First, I told her: "Do not swear at me". "And the reason I don't go on the sidewalk is because it's covered with snowbanks, and my walker wheels are too small to use it." And I concluded by saying: "Show some manners". And I peacefully went on my way.
Posted my envelopes, including my Tax Return, and made my way to my Credit Union to do one quick transaction. While there, I began to have trouble breathing; the air was filled with toxic chemicals, smelt like some of the ones in pesticides that I'm allergic to; the clerk said the carpets had just been professionally cleaned. So I explained to her several times during the simple transaction that I'd have to hurry my business because I am allergic to that, my heart-rate was rapidly accellarating, my lungs shutting down, and that a reaction was coming on quickly. But she didn't take that too seriously, and made several remarks to rebuke me. My breathing got more and more ragged, till I was gasping for air, and using my asthma inhaler, but it didn't help, and suddenly the room was spinning and going black, and I keeled over at the counter.
At that point, she moved into action, got the transaction finished, and helped me get outside into fresh air, where I sat down on a cement flower planter nearby and recuperated. After 5 minutes she came outside to see if I was going to be ok. After half an hour, I improved, and made it home.
Once again, I've lived to tell the tale of a nasty asthma attack.
Dear Children,
In your lifetime, you will have good days...and you will have bad days.
We all do.
PS: Home...a hot cuppa...your favourite chair...a warm blanket...a good nap...and you'll feel much better.
Sorry to hear you had such a rough afternoon, Valiant. Glad you're home safe and sound and hopefully feeling better.
Thanks for your kind remarks; I do feel better, only a little shaky.
*hugs Valiant* You're such a strong person! I just have this image of you picking yourself up, dusting yourself off and go on home. I just wish that other people would be better at listening and looking. All of us would be better off if that were the case.
Spent the morning in frugal mental replenishment.
Found a great recipe for homemade cheese/cottage cheese, using water and skim milk powder, and vinegar.
Will try to convert this by using a jar of frozen milk, skimmed for the cream, then the remainder heated and made into cheese or cottage cheese, with the whey saved to use as the liquid base of bread, muffins or biscuits. What a multiple savings of money all around, if the recipe works out, with only the cost of 1 jar of milk.
I find myself tiring of the endless emails and phone calls made to me by various department stores and advertisements company. I know I mostly did it to myself because often a bit of typing or an email on a mailing list gets me free goodies. But now, as I sift through the mountain of emails (my misc email address of course...I suppose I could just hit delete to all and be done with it but still...) and hang up on the daily telemarketers, I wonder if I could somehow move in a world undisturbed by these annoyances.
No more FB likes. No more spam mail. No more mailing lists. No more phone calls. What will it be, I wonder, peace and quiet or the lure of freebies and discounts?
First up...unsubscribe from these mailing lists.

About the spam and annoying phone calls: :-~
I just use an answering machine to take all my calls (cost $22 at Superstore), keep it ON, and the volume turned DOWN (unless I'm expecting an important call, in which case I turn the volume UP); I keep the ringer on the phone OFF, and then check my messages every couple of hours and answer them accordingly. Very few telemarking messages that way, NO noise; return to peace & quiet.
As for the email spam, most of it gets sent to spam, so I just scan the headings quickly, press Select All, and Delete. Same with the emails, and some of them I Unsubscribe, if possible. I'm getting quicker at handling all of this; it only takes a minute or so, now.
Today I did laundry, am drying the last load now; and worked on my wardrobe again. After trying on all the pants and short-sleeved blouses on the right side of my closet (this is the side where I keep the clothes that need alterations), I sorted through all of these, and now have 2 stacks on hangers ready to alter at the sewing machine.
Still need to try on all of my dress jackets and skirts on the right side of the closet, but don't want to tackle too much at once because that gets overwhelming, and then nothing gets done.
It is nice to reach into my dresser drawers and find wearable clothing now, and the clothing on the left side of my closet is also ready to wear.
Have decided to put 2 buttons on the center-front waistband of every pair of zipper-front pants--the second button for before-meal comfort, the first button for after-meal comfort.
I also worked on altering 2 button-down sweaters, removed braid from the button front of one sweater, so this sweater is now completed and ready to wear.
Also removed a layered front-piece from a layered sweater, but still have to do a bit of tricky sewing at the back of the neckband, where the layer had to come off, and now the edges have to be lined up again and re-sewn.
Again arranged my shoes by colour; I should be able to wear more of them this year, but may need to stretch some a bit.
Hint: rub a sample of hair conditioner into shoe-leather, allow time to soften, then stretch with shoe stretchers for a day or two.
Planning to make up some bulk mixes of common recipes, and storing the dry ingredients in glass jars in my pantry or fridge, with the recipe taped to the jar. This lessens the time, energy and mess involved in gathering & mixing ingredients every time I want to bake or cook these recipes. Only the wet ingredients will need to be added.
Some of my favourites:
- biscuits
- cookies, will also be mixing some up to freeze in logs, for baking later
- brownies
- cornbread
- pudding
- herb mix for burger
- pizza mix for topping
- pie crust
