Cat Treats

Mine don't really get treats. I mostly forget that we have them. I just bought them the purebites freeze dried shrimp ones, they like those. My cats idea of a 'treat' is sitting on my book while I'm trying to read. It's the little things in life that make her happy.

My kitty doesn't really like traditional cat treats. To be honest his favourite thing is playing with my gum wrapper because he likes the mint, or occassionally we will give him a strawberry. He loves strawberries.

I am going to be a rebel and say mine get treats and I don't care what you think lmao lol they sometimes get some at lunch but ALWAYS before bed and they love me for it. These poor people who do give treats are probally scared to post I didn't realize we should have such prissy cats lmao. Sorry don't mean to offend but the way I am reading these posts makes it sound like anyone who feeds their cats treats are terriable owners ; )

I am a bad owner too then. Claudius and Dot eat Friskies Party Mix Ocean Crunch! As many as I give them, they would eat them every day if I put some out. Thatis why I only buy them with a coupon ( if I can snag some) and combine it with a sale.

Actually, most of the people who commented before you said that they do give their cats some form of treat. I was one of the only ones who said that I don't, and I said that I am afraid to give them, not that everyone who gives them is a terrible owner. I have no doubt that people who give their cats treats love their cats just as much as I do. But I'm a big chicken about everything that has to do with my cats. It's probably a good thing that I don't have kids because they'd get nothing but broccoli for a snack!

My cats have no idea that there are treats. I'm always really scared about giving them anything unhealthy because I want them to live forever. They get excited for their meals though or whenever I open a can (They are hoping it's salmon because I give them the oil.) One of them likes green veggies, so she always get a leaf of lettuce or spinach when I'm washing it.

i understand where you're coming from!
but, you're suppose to feed your cat premium food for longevity.... never cheap out on cat food
i buy mine at the vets office, the treats i give my cat helps with tarter and hairballs.... in very small amounts.

I do give them premium food - usually grain-free. Although they aren't a necessary part of a cat's diet, there are healthy treats out there. Regardless of what kind they buy, people who feed their cats treats do so because it makes them feel good to give their cats something special. I have no problem with that whatsoever. It's just not something I do. I do give them a lot of toys throughout the year though.

I trick my cats. I buy a whole different small bag of cat food they don't normally get. Put come in a small containter and CALL them treats. They don't know any better. They are cheaper and healthier and my guys are happy they are getting treats. I make it a game for them. Throw and they go and chase them this way they exercise and work them off. Usually in the evening when they both look quite bored!!!

Mine get people food for treats. Like Natalka's kitties, mine are very, very finnicky when it comes to treats and often turn up their little noses at them. I've had some luck with greenies brand, but it's hit-and-miss. Jezz eats very little ppl food she does not like it...every now and then she may nibble a piece of poultry or bacon but deff hit an miss...
Sprinkles used to be eager for bagged treats, but then I exploited that by using treats to disguise her pills (she has a thyroid condition), so now she won't eat them at all! Her favourite treats are strawberries, blueberries, and the seedy middle part of english cucumbers. She will occasionally be interested in the water from a tuna can as well.Jezz does like the odd piece of cheese or rice cake

My only hard and fast rule is that under NO circumstances will the pets be given treats while I'm sitting at the kitchen table (this eliminates begging during meals). The cats have learned this and will sometimes beg when I'm making supper, disappear and then magically emerge when I'm tidying up - they are good at making themselves scarce for the rest of suppertime

I am the same and need to remind my roomie to ignore her if she comes into the dining room ....I also tell her "out of the kitchen" while I am cooking as I wouldn't want to accidently hurt her if I dropped something hot or trip over her when I have a hot pot in my hands......

she is now getting to be an old lady....I make her do something to get treats during the day but at night when I am going to bed she always gets a few treats from under my pillow

My cat Sherry was also abused before her previous owners dumped her at the humane society. She definitely needs extra love and cuddling because of her past; she glues herself to me because she doesn't trust anyone else... even DH! She definitely gets a few extra treats, especially after we've had company over as she'll normally have been under the bed for the better part of the visit. I'll often pop some popcorn so she can have a piece or two with a little bit of butter as a way of saying, "Yay! You survived your self-imposed isolation!"

I used to try to give her treats when company was around to coax her out and get her used to people, but she would rather do without goodies than meet the company

I know people that do that with their dogs too! It's actually helpful when you're trying to get them to lose weight as well.

My cats are addicted to treats! I try not to give them to them often but sometimes they won't leave me alone!

Really? I've always found the opposite. My cat people friends just seem to find dogs annoying (much like their favourite animal
